The minigames in this look more fun than the regular game. Give me the fire emblem petting zoo and spyro the dragon minigame mode with the wyvern riders. But I don't really like the art design (not talking about the v-tuber hair) where the clothing/armor looks like it belongs in Dragalia Lost or another gacha game. I was gonna hard pass this but I'll wait to hear some thoughts on the story because that's usually what I care about the most in FE.

So you get free weapons and stuff from FEH? Dang. I downloaded FEH the day it came out and played it for a bit. It was pretty solid. But my interest waned. But I logged in once every single day to get the free orbs and summons. I never spent a dime on the game. I had what equated to thousands of real world dollars worth of orbs on my account. But I switched over from Android to iPhone last year and apparently those orbs didn’t carry over so I stopped. I suppose I could reinstall it…

One is the absolute runaway power creep in the game. While I'm sure there's far worse gachas in terms of that, in terms of the ones I've played none have been anywhere near as bad or as constant about it as FEH. Even aside from base stats, which have ballooned, weapons and skills used to be like a few words to maybe a sentence. Now? Just go look at that video again. Combine this with the maker's refusal to put in a glossary, so theoretically standardized keywords for certain effects tend to get entirely reprinted in every description, and there have been weapons/skills that have literally had multiple pages. Secondly - and somewhat uniquely - FEH just has an incredibly demoralizing gacha. For those who haven't touched it, the way it works is that every time you do a pull, you get a selection of five colored orbs to pick from. These are made up of the four types of colored units in the game, corresponding to their type advantage (green/axe, blue/lance, red/sword, colorless), and you then spend gacha currency picking 1-5 of those orbs. Except no color is guaranteed per pull, so you can be stuck in a situation where you're looking for, say, a blue unit, but no blue orbs appear on six consecutive pulls. You're still required to pick something on every one of those pulls. Objectively it's likely not better or worse than most gachas, and the rates are decent, but there's a morale hit to knowing what you're looking for is impossible to get on this pull and still being required to pick it as opposed to just speculating until it's revealed. Easy enough to just reinstall briefly to get the bonuses though.

The absolute worst part of the color distribution in the gachas is that if you're looking for a specific banner unit and only buying ones of the correct color, you can get a pull with none of that color and blow your pitybreak chance on something you don't want.

yeah the game's getting dumped like hell. there's an ost dump, lists of supports, etc. no word on paired endings yet, but (mild spoilers about romance mechanics) alear does have s supports, where they give the person they're s-supporting with a ring called the 'pact ring.' notably the amount of romance implied varies. with words like 'bond' being thrown around, and you can give it to anna whos like 12 and just talks about it as a business partnership. However, some characters, like Kagetsu, outright say 'I love you.' alear's supports do not seem to have any differences for their gender and the support text dump doesn't have any separate files for male/female alear. the characters also never refer to alear's gender in the supports, it seems like. Some people are talking about a list of same-sex options, but I can't find anything about that in the dump I'm looking at. Regardless, if you're curious and just for completion's sake, what people seem to be sticking to is Male: Alfred, Diamant, Fogado Female: Merrin, Framme, Jade, Ivy. I'd like to repeat that personally I can't find anything supporting this list but since multiple people are saying it I felt the need to include it. I also question this list because, as mentioned, the support list does not delineate between male and female alear in any way, and Kagetsu's S support has an 'I love you' in it. The gender lockout could be a flag thing rather than treating male and female alear as separate characters, but that'd be different from how three houses did it. We'll know more in 4 days when the game is out. The CGs for giving the pact ring also seem to be in first person, which supports the 's support anyone regardless of gender' thing, though the romance CGs in Awakening and Fates were also first-person, and, well. Regardless, I'd advise taking anything you hear with a grain of salt until the game is in people's hands instead of 4 or 5 4chan posters. No word on non-alear romance stuff. I skimmed and there's definitely some that lean in a more romantic direction and some that are pure 'we're friends foreeeeeever :3' Did have a laugh at this line in the Diamant x Alfred support, though. Alfred: Looking forward to working with you, Prince Diamant! Diamant: I think this is the start of something beautiful between our kingdoms. And between us. Incidentally I skimmed some of the supports while doing this and, yeah, they seem solid. Not nearly as indepth or as long as Three Houses' but Three Houses' supports honestly overdid it sometimes. You get a good idea for the characters and there's some amusing back and forthsAnd nobody seems to lean on their gimmick toooooo much. Of course I'd need to go through every single one to confirm and I was just skimming to get an idea for the romance angles. Definitely not as elaborate in terms of character backstories as 3H though, for the most part.

oh wait, there is a list of paired endings in the text dump. further spoilers for romance stuff, but this should answer everyone's worries/questions. I list three paired endings here as examples but they don't really spoil any plot. V forbidden gay knowledge below Alear can seemingly have a paired ending with everyone regardless of gender, but the paired endings are all basically just 'alear and ___ hung out a lot.' Some of them explicitly mention love, some are 'devotion' and 'affection' type stuff. Wonder if something is going on in the TL there with Rosado's. Some characters have fairly non-specific endings but very explicitly romantic s supports, like Kagetsu. Likewise, some have fairly 'friends forever' s-supports but more ambiguous endings. Again, the only ones I'd say are insanely hard on 'this is NOT romantic' are the kids. Even Rosado's is slightly ambiguous but they don't even mention Alear in the Alear/Jean paired ending, lol. Only Alear has paired endings, which is disappointing. And no, you can't S support the emblems. They don't even get ending slides. If you don't want the spoilers, all I'll say is 'the previews saying the game deemphasized romance a lot' were pretty correct, but Alear can be pretty gay.
