I couldn't get into AEW.

I did watch their official PPV debut, the one where Cody (back with WWE now lol) smashes the Triple H throne that's made of styrofoam, and it had a terrible start with the worst comedy gimmick royal rumble I have ever seen but when the real matches started it was OK. I also watched for a bit when CM Punk joined but that didn't work out.

I just couldn't get into the show. I can't call it objectively bad, just don't like it.

I like AEW a lot but the lack of creative cohesion makes me miss the days of "a drug cartel except they traffick rasslers" Lucha Underground. I fuckin loved the first season of LU so much.

The Saudi Investment Fund buying WWE would be a pure sports washing move and not about generating money. While WWE does make money, it's not the point, and is not about money laundering because the KSA is a sovereign state, they don't have to launder their money. States like KSA and Qatar are buying up sports teams and other projects because it's something that gives them a supply of celebrities to shill for them and to use for propaganda in foreign countries.

For instance when you look at what Qatar Sports Investment has done with the soccer team Paris Saint-Germain, which is a super team in an arguably B-league soccer league in terms of players, teams, and international viewership. Despite making around a billion euros, they were still over 300 million euros in the hole. It does give them for instance Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi as employees whom they can use for propaganda purposes. While for instance Mbappe is pretty good about what he will and will not advertise for, and hasn't done so for Qatar to my knowledge, he's wearing a jersey with Qatar Airways on the front of it along with the other players every game. Qatar even went one further by buying the World Cup, something even Sepp Blatter was opposed to due to the naked corruption of the move after doing the same with Russia, and in the final had the two star players of PSG playing each, which to my knowledge was not fixed, I watched the cup. It worked out very well for them and was a burn pit for money. Meanwhile, Qatar is running propaganda commercials on the feeds of the World Cup between games, giving them a huge swath of viewers to see, "Qatar is actually a nice and peaceful paradise!" This is while they used indentured servitude and outright slavery to build all the venues and did their best to silence news about this. There was also the whole anti-LGBTQ thing and bribing Western politicians to chastise homosexuals for being homosexuals and how we should respect other cultures.

The Saudis already kind of do this with the Saudi events, the propaganda segments about how the KSA is nice and not like people say it is. If they owned the WWE, they would be doing the same but more often or in more subtle ways. It's just sports washing and nothing more. The KSA is just really bad about it and late to the game so they're looking to buy the loving WWE instead of a respectable sports team like Qatar or a Russian oligarch. If the Saudi events are any indication, if they bought it, WWE would probably be at the same level as Impact within a year or two once their TV deals are done.

Why not just license the WWE name or franchise it? Just do the territory model again so you have WWE South, WWE West, WWE Mid-west, etc. Then at a yearly PPV you do North vs South, East vs West, USA vs Canada and such

They kind of wanted/want to do this with different continents, but their weak attempts in the UK and Japan didn't really work.

I fail to see how fragmenting the US market would benefit them in any way.

That's RAW, Smackdown, and NXT according to WWE. I know it's dumb to look it at that way but they still see their programs as "brands" and still want people to pretend they're separate promotions.

Actually doing what you're describing would essentially be a reverse way of making the NWA again, the original and not the one run by Corgan, and Vince, or anyone with any sense, would never let that happen again. Vince used the territory system to destroy the territory system and everyone remembers that so you would be a fool to trust the scorpion that is Vince/WWE in any sort of franchise agreement. Even when WWE expanded abroad themselves, it was still in direct control and not franchising out its brand. As noted WWE tried to get into the UK with NXT UK and into Japan, with a stillborn NXT Japan or whatever they would have called it. While NXT UK ran for a bit, it pretty much just hoovered up all the "big" talents and the UK scene imploded due to all the promoters being sex pests or serious abusers soon after. Brexit also kind of hobbled UK wrestling too with all the changes that it brought in terms of immigration law and not even the WWE was willing to put up with that coupled with covid. Vince won't even let the announce team work on their own without him screaming in their ears so there is no way he would allow anyone any sort of power like a franchise too. His ego and paranoia wouldn't allow anything like that to happen.

The market has also changed in a way that doesn't really allow a territory type promotion to be as big and influential as they were before. There's now multiple large companies that broadcast on national TV and on the Internet that you have to compete with. There are some smaller, regional, indies that do well for what they are but they in no way have the power to stop even GCW from running in their "territory." Regional TV is dead too and I don't think streaming money makes as much for the promotions as the old regional TV programs brought in. While you have awful promotions like XPW, the rebirth of the original one run by the same rape porn pornographer, feuding with promotions over who runs where, it's in no way enforceable. There's no OG NWA type organization for the promoters to work out things peacefully and beyond that it just gets into some criminal areas of enforcement through violence and/or threats of violence. The best we'll probably ever get at this point in time is gentleman's agreements and quid pro quo arrangements like AEW does with other feds like NWA, Impact, NJPW, and GCW to name some notables.

She legitimately doesn't know what to say because she went from an environment where every single thing was tightly scripted to one with no scripting for basically anything. She was on Jericho's podcast recently and talked about it and how some of her promos really sucked. The wrestling I can forgive for a bit longer because she's wasn't allowed to wrestle for years.
