Boldy got a 7 year $49m extension in Minnesota. I think that's a great deal for both sides.

Yeah that's a good deal especially with their hosed up cap situation. He's already really good and that locks him up through his prime. If I had to guess he'll probably out-perform that contract.

I believe they will. I'd expect a Bratt deal to be something along the lines of 8/$70-75m.

Also, is Tocchet coaching currently? I thought he was out of the league as a coach after Arizona let him go.

So Vancouver has shadow hired/fired their coaching situation, made it public knowledge but won’t announce it, and of all people to hire they chose Rick Tocchet? Am I getting all that right?

He should have at the beginning of the year when they got terrible roster decisions in the summer. I feel for the guy, he's just dealing with a poo poo show with a handful of talent and high expectations.

Yup, this franchise is terrible and weirdly cruel about it all too.

To make it even funner, Mike Yeo is supposedly the coach responsible for the defense. You know, they guy that JR insisted they'd hire, so that they can blame Bruce for the lack of defensive structure.

JUST PICK ONE. ANY ONE.
I have to think OEL and Connor Garland were perhaps somewhat behind this, as insanely stupid as it makes them sound. Tocchet was the coach for the Coyotes for 4 pretty miserable years save the bubble year that Darcy Keumper and Antti Raata each played like Vezina winners, the team traded FOR Taylor Hall, and they won a qualifying round (and then immediately got their poo poo kicked in by the Avs lol). Still, Tocchet's system was terrible, and truly miserable to watch. Sucks that the Canucks' organization thinks that he might in any way be good at getting talent to perform because, uh, no. He really sucks. Best you can hope for is maybe the goaltending improves.

Mike Works

I’m on board for Tocchet if it means tanking, which it will. Because he sucks.

This is easily the most disillusioned I’ve ever been about this franchise, which is crazy given some of the talent they have on the roster.

Bring back John McCaw.

When you're hiring a coach, it's important to only go for retreads or guys who are on TV. Tocchet checks both boxes. It's clearly a can't-miss choice.

GOOD CLEAN FOOTBALL
The Sabres were on a great run until the thrilling OT win against the Wild.

1-4-0 since then. Played well in 2 of those 5 games and were complete trash in the other 3.

Tage Thompson has also gone ice cold with 2 assists and no goals during this stretch. He's not really snake bit, as he's not generating crazy chances anymore either.

Disappointing that as soon as the team got within striking distance of the playoffs that they've fallen apart again.

Robertson reminds me of Jeremy Bracco. Tiny Leafs forward prospect with good AHL numbers that will never be a regular NHLer, but will still be a key piece of every single fans trade proposals until he’s in Europe 2 years from now

Koopa Kid
Aug 21, 2007

I don’t think the Bracco comparison is fair, Robertson actually showed projectable skills when watching him whereas it took one Marlies game I attended to convince me that Bracco was a JAG.

It was always going to be tough for Nick though, turns out having a real shot and offensive anticipation doesn’t count for much when you never have the puck because you cannot get it off the wall at all.

Twin Cinema posted:

He’s the sad instance of scouts being leery of a really talented small dude being proven completely correct. Hard to develop through your formative years when you spend 6 months of every season on IR, it’s hard to imagine him carving out a decent career at this point.

Actually now that I remember there was a thing in development camp with Hayley Wickenheiser where she told reporters her message to Nick was to learn to pick his spots and let the game come to him sometimes, and he responded to the press saying that he got to the NHL by giving 100% and he wasn’t gonna change that.

So I guess it’s less about physique and more that Nick Robertson is simply too dumb to get out of the way of being trucked by 240lb defenders constantly.
