After consultation with EXCOMM, Kennedy ordered a naval “quarantine” on October 22 to prevent further missiles from reaching Cuba.[4] By using the term “quarantine”, rather than “blockade” (an act of war by legal definition), the United States was able to avoid the implications of a state of war.[5]

People's reactions to learning nuclear winter is a myth is funny "You mean we could have been nuking everyone without consequence this whole time???" Wow almost as if there was good reason for scientists to lie to the civilian and military command at every opportunity. Even being told that the bomb could ignite the Earth's atmosphere was an insufficient deterrent to leadership, lol

It's like they don't understand that even if the Russian are completely out of Ukraine, they would still need to negotiate a peace treaty. Especially if they ever want reparation or anything like that.

Not the worst : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981_Pushkin_Tu-104_crash Somehow listed as pilot error, but the pilots were forced to overload an airplane filled with almost the entire admiralty. The one naval guy that decided not to get on the plane but visited his nearby relatives was initially suspected of involvement.

Kind of misleading considering the grounding was ended 5-6 years ago and the failure rate isn't particularly high compared to say the S92. They are in use just fine across the world: https://www.radarbox.com/data/aircraft/EC25
