Cars are way more valuable than bikes though. My former co-worker was using us about how his new leasing deal was way cheaper than buying a car, and even without insurance and fuel, my thought was that I could by a new bike every week for that money. And not a cheap bike either. So yeah, by the even more divine logic of capitalism, cars are more valuable than bikes, and pedestrians are essentially worthless unless they're on crutches or something.

The victims (justifiably) want her on the hook for damages, she has no means of paying it, so her only option is a frivolous lawsuit to foist the financial burden onto an entity that does. You see this happen all the time with injuries; people get injured, can't pay hospital bills, sue the place they got injured regardless of how stupid their argument is. If there's even a chance you win it's life-changing. Same for the victims; someone has to foot the bill as presumably insurance is dancing around paying for it if they need to sue her. In a just world the government would pay for it, jail her, and she'd work off some debt to society and go back to her normal life. But you can't arrest drivers for any wrongdoing, or even take away their license. Just kidding, in a just world she wouldn't have had a car in the first place and none of this would have been possible.

Not sure how I feel about that lawsuit; in Ontario (and I think a lot of other places) there is precedent that a venue can be liable for your actions after leaving if intoxication at that venue is a factor. But lmao, of course it's London. That city is a benighted shithole and easily the most disgustingly car-centric place I've ever lived. She might have gotten a more serious sentence in Toronto, but London is not a city that fucks with drivers' rights, for any reason.
