Maybe. But in general, the closer you can get to sunlight, the easier it is to differentiate the bricks. I can tell them all apart in good light. The worse the light, the harder to differentiate.

Any suggestions for a mifigure display set-up for an Ikea Detolf? I usually go through Wicked Brick, but their minifigure stands are abusrd compared to their other offerings. Why not just build stands out of 2x3 and 2x4 bricks? Can go transparent if you want. I just use the minifig stands since I think it looks nicer to have the tiled appearance, but you could either just have exposed studs or tile in transclear + 1x2 plates to stand on

absolutely helps me, but my spouse found bright light to cause a glare/reflection. So i would check some pieces under a lamp, hand to her and she'd move them into darker area and wed agree. Then again my eyes are going and I need bright light to read half the time

It's not that I can't tell the bricks apart it's that I can't match them to the color on the instructions.

The lego art set (and I assume the other mosaic sets) came with a special bag of pieces along with printed numbers to build a color key out of. I thought that was awesome and I feel like lego should make that standard for high end sets that have poor color contrast.

The colors in their instructions have been garbage since day one, but now they have so many shades they really gotta step things up a notch somewhere.

Finished the Creator 3 in 1 Viking longship. I didn't realize until I was researching that there was a Viking line of sets in ~2006.

Kind of surprised they're using bricks for the sail rather than the classic plasticky fabric like in the old pirate/imperial sets.

Also ended up replacing the heads with the classic : ) faces, maybe a little less personality but it's funnier to me that a Danish company makes a Viking playset and the Vikings all have the : ) expression.

It’s a trend started with last year’s Pirate Ship, that has a big brick built sail too.

I think brick built sails are a really good idea for the 3-in-1s. More bricks to build with and less weird fabric things that will get hosed up in the big box of lego.

Yeah bricks make sense especially in a 3 in 1, or even just as a playset for kids, rather than something for adult nerds to build and put on a shelf forever.

It was $60 or so when I got it. Probably just out of stock right now. Or a new model. I dunno.

The build felt a bit repetitive since it's symmetrical side to side and front to back, but it looks good on display like most sets with sails. The serpent felt like an afterthought.

you all remember the hit marvel studios neil gaiman joint that blew up theaters across the nation last summer, avengers infinity war, right?

lego made some sets about it, there was a polygon space ship and a big robot generic robot guy and this thing and this other thing. I took the two later sets and made this:

the mouth opens, very wide if needs be

more importantly, the tongue moves up and down

I need to take some better photos when I have better light

Whenever something goes out of stock on Amazon there’s at least one vulture charging 10x the msrp in the hopes someone clicks on it. It’s really unbelievable Amazon even allows it.

What is this emotion called "criminal negligence"?
Yeah, the colour differentiation in the background was really tough. The navy and aqua pieces were fine, but the three middle shades got very tricky to suss out. I downloaded the instructions and then cast them to my tv so they'd at least be bigger, but still. Only had two missing part scares and one time where I had to backtrack though.

Maybe they just need to print the colour codes on each step of something?
