Is this still a myth...? Also, how much did this cost vs. asking an Australian to record a fifteen second video?

This is a window into a completely alien economic and culinary world. Possibly one where the chef’s time was costlier than the meats, and they had to fight the ration board for vegetables?

Our (great?) grandparents just had terrible taste.

Possibly one where the chef’s time was costlier than the meats, and they had to fight the ration board for vegetables? It looks like mostly quick service — look at the hours it’s open in the top left. Get in, get out. Ain’t got time to cook individual entrees. And if this was the place employees ate, most of them probably couldn’t afford that anyway. And there’s tons of vegetables there, plus various salads. There’s even a vegetarian dinner special, which frankly kind of surprises me for 1941. There’s some unusual items, sure, and in many cases you’d have to piece together your meal but if those prices were reasonable I’d kill to have a cafe like that down the street.

Don draper voice: what do we want when we sit down to a meal of broth? Nourishment. Strengthening of the body. Strong muscles, strong bones. Bone broth provides all that and if that doesn't get the punters to buy, we'll have sal whip up a girl with massive honkers to hold a can while cracking a smile.
