Fruits and vegetables are classifications from different contexts, so they have plenty of overlap and no relation. Paprikas for example are a fruit and a vegetable.

When my mother was younger her family had a cleaning woman from Germany who would eat raw bell peppers like they were apples. My mom's family was also the only non-Jewish family in the neighborhood, so the cleaning woman would take the opportunity to rant about how much she disliked Jews. Ever since I heard that story I've had this idea in my mind that Germans would eat raw bell peppers whole.
