There is so much good stuff in the patch notes:

quote:

- Added Kha'ak-specific Destroy Station missions.
- Improved Zyarth economy to counter it being overrun by Xenon (affects new games only).
- Fixed Split flak turret bullets not exploding.
- Improved amounts sold by free traders and miners when only selling, particularly across multiple sectors.
- Improved missile damage and ammo consumption simulation when player not present.
- Improved capital ships using forward-mounted guns in combat when player not present.

Tried the patch and crashed to desktop after 2 minutes in my old 5.10 save. They're saying it's compatible to old saves but it might be a good idea to reset the graphic settings and start a new game.

Oh man, finally! Thank the holy triangle! Since collecting them before required going into that toxic cloud, right? (I wish there was a mod you could make, so that your S/M size ship's shield would be immune to that rubbish.)

Either way, this is exciting news. I've been holding off on diving back into X4 for a while (partly to work on my Steam backlog, but also partly gambling on there being one final expack to come, which came up Milhouse) so this is sounding great, so far!

It seems like a good idea from reading, because you don't generally need to get involved personally late in the game so just being able to watch stuff happen would be pretty nice.

With fixes like that I'm *really* curious why it was broken for so long.

Also does that mean the asgard will shred everything again OOS because of it's incredibly high damage gun?

The patch is great but I had to roll it back, I had invisible khaak killing my miners and multiple times I had a bug where something shoots off into the distance while looking at the map and enlarges the sector so much you can't zoom in far enough to see anything.

It's an opensource physics engine that they added.

I think I'll start a new game for Kingdom End. Haven't played in a while.

Do you still have to sell ships at a massive discount? I seem to remember you couldn't sell ships at actual price for some reason.

Yeah they nerfed it a while ago because it was too overpowered (in a single player game lol). There's a mod or two that correct the sale price though.

Bernd made a 10 minute video explaining some of the changes we get with patch 6.00 and Kingdom End:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbfez5ljdE4

They're calling it the complete edition as the universe is now feature complete in regards to the races they wanted to add. We're probably getting a bundle of all the dlc for new players as well.
They will however still work on X4 after the expansion is released, so there is a chance that we get more dlc after this one. He's also mentioning Ventures, they are not dead and are still developed as a feature update after Kingdom End.

Late game X4 heavily modded (VRO + about 20 other things) definitely slows down to a crawl. Like 40fps with a 3080/12600k, especially on the map screen. Iirc it's very responsive to fast ram and high cpu clocks, and is also largely capped by single thread performance. It basically was not playable on my laptop which has a 7700hq and 2400 ram.

With that said I have no idea how vanilla X4 performs late game. I assume better than with the big mods but still a noticeable slowdown as the universe gets crowded.

Well I haven't actually played in a while so may be misremembering higher than it was. Could easily have been 20fps, especially zoomed out enough. Choppy as poo poo is what I definitely remember.

I recall reading on the egosoft forums that good ram (and single core clocks) really helps that late game performance so if you are into ram tuning/ocing at all it could maybe be worth it. I have my 12600k at 5ghz all core, and also spent like 4 days getting my b-die sticks to 3600 14-14-14 + tight secondaries ~*~ANTA 777 EXTREME STABLE~*~ on a gigabyte board that hates ram overclocking (won't go higher than 3600, not even 3733 would post), and to be perfectly frank I don't think it was worth my time lmao, but "fun" to learn about I guess.

I'm playing on a 2021 G14 laptop, so within the four hours I was playing it there were frequent instances of it going from 80+ to 30 frames on a dime even with nothing going on. Even with tweaking the config files to lower random NPCs and traffic in stations, just getting near them was a guaranteed 30ish no matter what, which like okay, my computer's not that great I'm not really blaming the game. Where's the top down X4 clone Star Sector style?

The 6.0 beta branch does have the new Jolt physics engine and according to a thread in the forums, does run better for some people. Personally, I don't see any difference but I'm also running a Ryzen 1600 with everything on minimum so who knows.
Biggest speed improvement on the map is still to disable the direction lines for all ships.

It's the new Jolt physics engine and an updated graphics engine with nicer lighting. Performance is definitely improved - I've experienced a bit of an FPS boost in the early game, but my current game hasn't progressed where I'm running massive complexes yet. So far the majority of the mods I run seem to work ok ( I've tried playing vanilla but I missed being able to auto loot containers, use Sector Satellites and craft ship mods ), but anything involving modified ships are a bit of a crapshoot. I have experienced a couple unusual bugs, there seems to be an issue with collisions when scanning harder to get signal leaks and autopiloting through asteroid belts, and I've noticed more than one ai pilot getting their ship jammed in station structures.

What does the physics change? I hadn't ever really thought of the game as having physics to be honest other than basic collision detection which only really applies to the player, and like, projectile impacts, but I didn't think they imparted any force to objects.

To be honest I don't think it feels any different outside some current collision box bugs, I look forward ( not ) to redoing the Paranid maze, which should be a good indicator if makes a difference. I think it just means that physics is handled by a third party engine rather than one of their own creation. It may become more apparent when we start seeing Boron stuff in action.
