You may like Gadgeteer too.

edit; something I forgot about Pathcraft is that is missing the ability of rotating with the joystick, you can only turn in real ilfe and it's a pain in the rear end something. It's something basic that is strangely missing.

WMR was an offshoot of the original Hololens, and then someone got the idea to chase military contracts as the main Hololens market.

I touched on it before, it was never a good fit. The Series X has one HDMI video output and as far as I'm aware doesn't push DisplayPort over any of it's USB outputs like the PS5 does. This is complicated by there being WMR HMDs that can come with either HDMI or DisplayPort connectors. It would require a bespoke active switchbox+converter to deal with those problems, but that still leaves one video output to share, leaving the TV blank whenever the headset is being used. On top of that there's the controllers, which always sucked and only managed to become useful once the HP Reverb refreshed them to a more standard layout.

I don't think it could have worked well even if they tried.

With the theoretically upcoming Apple headset, I would be surprised if the preferred answer to 'how do you type' ends up as anything but 'use your iPhone'. Continuity controls and screen sharing between devices are already good enough that I'm sure they could sync an iPhone screen in real time and overlay it on passthrough tracking.

Well, dipped my toe into VRChat for the first time. Found a fun visualiser room, and a cool train-through-the-cosmos-with-lofi-hiphop room, and messed around in a movie world watching a bit of an episode of Star Trek TOS.

Then I decided that I'd stick my head into a public room to see what was going on. Bunch of children screaming over the top of each other and a dude with an Andrew Tate avatar running around quoting him, so about what I was expecting.

It's great though, feels very much like the early days of exploring the late 90s early 00s internet communities when it felt like there was a new VRML chatroom (I had to go do a bit of googling to even remember that it was called VRML) launching every other week.

For anything public in VRChat, stick to the PC-only worlds. That will get you mostly adults and older teenagers, and completely avoids the substantial demographic of small children whose parents stuck a Quest 2 on their heads in lieu of actually supervising them.

For everyone curious I have a Pico 4 and it's really really good, especially with Virtual Desktop instead of the bundled pcvr software. It was designed to easily snap on lenses, so the prescription ones I put in there are super thin. The only thing I'd complain about is that the battery life is only about 2 hours, I had to buy an external battery and carry it in my pocket for longer sessions.

Try EmuVR and see if it’s supported, it works pretty well with the light gun games I’ve tried.

SCheeseman

New Retro Arcade: Neon uses libretro and has lightgun support, but it's been abandoned by the devs for a while. EmuVR has lightgun support too but does more of a 90s kids bedroom aesthetic rather than arcades. Neither have the capability of doing Silent Scope justice, though you might be able to hack something together with EmuVR and a libretro Dreamcast emulator? For the record the best version is on Xbox, but good luck with that.

I've been whinging for VR arcade ports for ages. Lightgun games, sit down/in and motion machines, running on Quest you could even plunk them down in an AR environment. It would bring back a lot of value, something a bit more authentic than launching a ROM to play on a flat screen television.

Who did you get your lenses from, I should look into (aha) getting similar for my Pico.

Are they easy to snap back out again? I occasionally let friends have a look at VR and it would be handy to not break a lens when removing them.

edit: agreed about the battery life, fun little lifehack if you buy a usb-c cable and it comes with one of those velcro cable tidies, you can roll it up on itself til its a little free-sliding tube on the cable, then put that tube inside the loop on the back of the top strap and it will velcro in place and let you route the cable out of the headset port, up to the top of your head and then down your back to a wallet pocket where you can put your power pack.

This may or may not be it but if I connect my Quest2 to the PC using a link cable, rather than using airlink, for some reason the oculus software shows it as a "Rift" that is connected.

Now I think about it, it could be this, together the fact there is no Rift S on the list. So that number surely is Rift + Rift S + some Quest users like you.

On the other hand, everybody hates the SLR app and equally hates Deo for ruining their app chasing their approval even if they are now gradually unfucking it and brought back DLNA support. The very gradual decline of Cardboard is interesting though, as is the complete abandonment of GearVR. I also wonder what that Unknown category is though my assumption would be it's the Oculus Go.

Lynx update via some youtube live thing, anyone catch it / learn anything new?

Last update (back in early December) said first headsets were leaving the factory and shipping to developers and KS backers first. KS backers & pre-orders will get asked a few questions re: shipping (they've said before this is about accepting a pre-certification unit for dev work, or opting to wait for the consumer version.) I haven't heard squat, personally.

While watching the trailer, I thought of an idea, here it's for free: a VR shooter where if you reload doing a fancy move (ie, throwing the magazine in the air spinning around and then letting it fall inside the pistol by putting it upside down), those bullets will have +40% damage.

I agree they're not doing the best job on that end, sometimes not being very clear about what what their news "means" for purchasers/backers.

This last update, they're excited to see the first units out of the factory. But wait, the last time they updated way back in early December they were also getting the "first units out of the factory" on Dec 9th. None of it yet "means" that KS or pre order units fulfillment is around the corner but they're not very clear about that. It's pre production to verify things, or "we got enough on hand to use for demos at CES", and so on.

Here's your free QA: Players are trying to do it constantly the moment they find out about it and either (if it's too easy) reduce it to a rote action or (if it's too hard) ultimately end up frustrated that they're not getting Optimal Damage.
