it depends on what the engine is tuned for. You CAN burn valves if the engine was not made to tolerate that or tuned to run without an exhaust manifold. Either the heating/cooling cycle will eventually crack them or burn the seats.

That shell has a dry weight of 4917lbs dry. So who knows how much heavier it is with two people, water, and what ever they put in it. I could see it getting close to 6k pounds with everything in it. https://www.eaglecapcampers.com/eagle-cap-1165#:~:text=The%201165%20features%20an%20Eagle,give%20you%20space%20for%20all! It weighs around 8 thou wet and ready to camp. It's a triple slide afterall. It would overload some 450s if optioned out and on a long weekend. I know of someone with the same camper on a 550 weighing in at almost 19,000lb.

The 550 is modified for overlanding so it's gonna be heavier than stock. As is the camper. Should point out that the 1165 is almost 12' on the truck bed and 21' overall length and nearly 10' tall at 8.5' wide. With Three Slides. 66 gal fresh capacity, 6 gal water heater, 41 gray tank, 41 black. and 60lb propane. It's not a small camper.

Really torn between the HMMTT, the 5 ton, and the old cabover. Two of those probably have a 12V92 though which would sell it for me over the multifuel any day.

If I had infinite money a LVSR seems like it'd be the ultimate chassis for an oversize overlander, 10x10 with independent suspension all around and steering on four of the five axles. wolrah fucked around with this message at 16:38 on Feb 7, 2023 |

wolrah posted:AFAIK the older Oshkosh 8x8 trucks use the 8V92, not the 12. The newer ones have a Cat C15. They did, but I've seen a few in private hands that replaced the 8 for the 12. LVSR is still the finest vehicle I've ever offroaded. Giant boulders, up a hill, laden or unladen, crossing logs, anything at all and it just rides like a Camry on the freeway. It would totally be my choice as well, as long as I put better seats in.

Well for something that big the idea is probably to get as far as you can then hike the rest of the way or unleash the dune buggy you have strapped to the back. ...then go home to your apartment on wheels. Also some lovely math says an lvsr does about 1.5mpg.
