Also from knowing children I don't think many of them are huge chicken wing fans. Oh from the indictment:

Yeah, it's remarkable how much better one can feel after not drinking. After I got through detox and withdrawal and started actually living a sober life, I was amazed at how quickly I was losing weight, and how much better I was feeling in general. Alcohol is a pretty heavy CNS depressant, so it can absolutely affect your mood and your anxiety, and beyond that, it is an incredibly potent diuretic, so it dehydrates the poo poo out of you. When I swapped the liter of vodka I was killing a day with three to four liters of water a day, it was amazing how much better I felt. It was also nice to not want to spend the entire next day in bed because my entire caloric intake the previous day had been empty calories from alcohol and so my head felt like a bowling ball and my muscles felt dead.

I'm not advocating temperance or sobriety or anything as a blanket thing, just sharing my story and experience.

Seems millennials are trending towards killing the alcohol industry! When will their reign of terror end??

So like with check kiting, bank transfers (ACH) also take 3 days to clear while still showing the funds as in your account. When this is done through reputable banks, people go, oh this money is good, and let you have at it. And well... this trader used that with a bunch of Bank of America accounts to move a ton of fake money into his account, executed a ton of trades through a broker with that money... and got completely rinsed.

BoA after 3 days goes yeah, funds don't exist, Trader gets arrested, Broker frantically undo-es all the trades and loses like $3m in the process. FBI and SEC are all up their rear end right now.

That is a pretty interesting development, but I found myself after about 30 lacking social activities to do that weren’t drinking. I think it’s a positive development that folks are looking elsewhere.

I’ve noticed a lot of my morning brain fog has disappeared since I quit but I need to get better sleep. Part of it is working full time and going to college again full time (which won’t be sustainable when I get past my first few “wake up and do math again” courses), but generally I’m only sleeping ~6hrs a night.

My next goals are going to be to get that number up closer to 8 and start going to the gym again.

I would assume sober curious would be the opposite of that, where you are sober the minority of the time, it should be drinking curious. Also, that describes me pretty much, I have 0 alcohol at home and only have a drink a few times a year at social events. Alcohol tastes pretty bad. I won a bottle of Dom Perignon and I might just waste it at a friends bad movie night or something since I will never drink it.

One of the associates at the same firm as the Trader. Some really weird poo poo is going on with younger traders, a lot of whom seem to be Sam Bankman-Fried level of incompetent criminals, and now that we got this forced recession poo poo going on, all the easy money for them is gone, and a lot of them are very hosed.

I think one of the craziest things I've ever seen at work was about ... oh, fourteen years ago or so, when I was the bar manager of a seafood restaurant here in town. The last night I worked there, it was just utter bedlam. Three customers got into a wrestling match, resulting in one guy being put through a table. The kitchen manager was pissed-off because a server he was banging had just dumped him, so he walked out about a half-hour into service; we ran out of batter for the fish and chips, and no one else knew how to make the batter, so we had to 86 anything battered and fried by about 6 p.m. on a Saturday night. (They left the fryers on to make fries, though; this will be important for later.)

One of the line cooks sliced his thumb all the way to the goddamn bone, so we had to peel off my barback to drive him to the ED. Later in the night, we ran out of pasta, so this seafood joint was basically selling burgers, steaks and pre-made things like popcorn shrimp. Mercifully, we made it to close (and I somehow didn't strangle an rear end in a top hat customer at the bar who got so incredibly pissed-off at me because I was charging him for doubles).

And then in the kitchen, during cleanup, one of the line cooks opened up the fryer to change out the oil.

Without turning it off. :gonk:

I have never heard such an unholy scream in my life. So we had to call an ambulance for him, because we were in no way equipped to handle severe leg burns like that and I wasn't putting him in someone's car.

And, of course, that filthy cooking oil went right into the main drain line. :suicide:

I finished my cleanup, wrote up my after-action report as the manager on duty, put it in the office, locked up the restaurant and went home.

Went to work the next morning (as Sundays were the days I did inventory and ordering) only to see a few folks standing outside the restaurant; the locks had been changed and a sign simply said, "We are closed."

All of our final paychecks bounced, too. gently caress that owner.
