Have any of you played Warmaster at conventions like Adepticon? If so, how many points are the armies and for how many players? I'm trying to build a con game that will last 4 to 6 hours max and am not sure how many points it should be to achieve that. Assume some if not all of the players will have to be taught the system as its played.

Its really hard to say. I would keep the army sizes at 1k for new players and avoid units with complex rules. I don't think you could go wrong with four 1000 point armies in a 2v2 match.

There are rules out there for more than 2 sides, so you could get extra spicy and do a 2v2v2 at 500 points for each army if you have the space and patience for more newbies. This sounds like a blast to me

OK thanks, that is helpful. The scenario I have in mind will definitely be one side vs the other, but each side has other factions, so it will be at least 4 armies and it could be 6. I just want to make sure the game is fun for new players and isn't so long that it can't get at least close to a resolution in the allotted time slot.

If you want 6 players, maybe 750 points per army and 3v3. Some armies start to fall apart at less than 1k, so I would stick to the more iconic factions. You might "gold plate" the units a bit, or take an extra hero more than needed, to keep the unit counts smaller

I have, and we did the full 2000 point armies, and had eight people the few times we did it. We did three games in 6 (or 8?) hours. I don't know if the guy who used to run it is still doing so, but he used to get his event in a bit late. Also, looks like someone is already doing two events on Friday?

I would probably use a 1500 point army list per side, breaking each into 500 point force, each having a hero or wizard. Have a General at the head of each army that can be used by the event runner to activate a player unit in case they flub a command roll out of the gate. It's not a legal list, but it should allow everyone to experience magic and leadership, and push a few units around. Also, a full 6-8 hours is a looong time for a new player. For learning games and demos, things need to move fast so people don't lose interest. Doing two three hour events seems like a better time for folks who might not want to commit to a full day of learning one game (they can always come back for the second one if they really dig it.)

Soubds good, thanks.8 hours is definitely too long. I think ideally I'd like to keep it to a 4 hour game slot since I figure at least an hour of that is going to be eaten up by people getting the hang of the rules in the first 2 or 3 turns.

Yeah. The good news is that WM is actually pretty easy, and the only time it really starts to get a little confusing is when you get into weird angles and sweeping advances and stuff. I'd also recommend the WM Revolution rules, if you weren't already using them. Also, if you're not already there, the Specialist Arms forum is pretty good, and my buddy Dave, who wrote the WM Army Selector is one of the Admins and can definitely give some advice to you.

Maybe lean into that and have a small scenario that will resolve quickly to act as a tutorial before the main event. That way people will know what they're doing when they start deploying the big armies.

Its unfortunate because that site is also one of the only updated online source of GW's rules, (they don't offer their own afaik). Including errata that changes specific model's stats. So if people want a quick reference on the stuff they have legitimately purchased, instead of pawing through rulebook X of 7, and then checking a separate errata pdf, they go there.

There are! It's kind of a grey area since GW often gets them 404'd on thingiverse or cults so people are understandably hesitant to post links and ruin a good thing.

Moonjam's Galactic Crusaders have survived a lot of C&D purges. He's presumably been noticed and passed whatever tests GW uses. (The standard seems to be "uses no propriety GW names and is distributed as free fan art.")

You'll want to increase the figures by 33% to go from 6mm to AT scale. (Which is effectively 8mm, quarter 40k scale, or 1/4th 32mm.)

As someone looking to get into Kill Team, where should I start? I've done enough research to know that there are a couple starter sets and several (many?) expansions, that rules are compiled online, and that my son and I are interested in legionaries and kommandos. If I can find a base starter set (Imperial Guard/Orks) and a box of the legionaries, is that a viable and cost-efficient way to go, or is there a better way?

I believe I need a copy of the core rules and the team-specific rules are in the compendium, or the model box, or possibly somewhere else? Is there a decent absolute beginner's guide to getting started on kill team?

The starter set with orks and Kriegers has a mini core rule book in it. So getting that box plus the legionnaires box would be good for your teams. The faction rules are unofficially online and if you are just playing with your son probably all you need. If you do want the books ( which are pretty nice but overpriced) you will need the octarius ( orks and krieg) and the nachmund ( legionnaires and eldar corsairs).

Hello!

your best most cost effective options for what you need is to buy the following:-

Recruit edition Kill Team:-

https://www.amazon.com/Games-Worksh...32-63e904010ad0

I STRONGLY suggest you purchase the octarius Terrain, not only is it fantastic there's a million missions and terrain Layouts that will really give you a lot of different games to play, however please search EBAY for this terrain first before buying new, I got my octarius Terrain for only 40 dollars which is half off the asking price:-

https://www.amazon.com/Games-Worksh...c0-4513d670b6bc

here are the legionares box:-

https://www.amazon.com/Games-Worksh...c0-4513d670b6bc

You honestly dont need to buy any additional stuff beyond that other than hobby stuff like the paints and stuff, all of the rules and mission layouts are available online with a google search, I cant post it here, overall everything I listed will cost around $220, you will get alot of game for you and your son at that price! if you want the critical ops cards (I personally recommend them) I would add 30$ on top of that price.

hope this helps! let me know if you have any further questions.

I haven't actually played Warp Coven (building the Rubricae has been very slow going) but everything I've seen has at least two Sorcerers, depending on whether or not you have Tzangors. I don't own any, and don't intend to, so I'm doing three (Exalted) Sorcerers, Rubric Marine, Gunner, and Icon Bearer.

It's fine. The limited mobility of the rubricae can hurt you in some missions, though, so it's smart to have some tsaangors available in certain match-ups.

ARBITES, OPEN UP!

Next weekend's pre-orders is all about kill team. Not only do we see the release of Khaine Kush drug raid Soulshackle, but also more or less all of the earlier teams in stand alone releases.

So that's Kasrkin, Farstalker Kinband, Navy Breachers and Hierotek Circle.

On top of that the Gallowdark terrain box is also coming out, alongside the Shadowvaults upgrade box for all the little gribblies like the turrets and so on.

The previously revealed Void War Bases are also going up for pre-order as well.
Although apparently delayed in the US and Canada according to the footnotes.

Lastly, tickets for US open goes on sale on Friday.

Oh my god oh my god thank you so much GW, i am so loving happy they are finally releasing the narrative sprues on their own, oh my god that puts my mind so much at ease about missing out on expansions, like this i can buy Soulshackle and be confident ill be able to buy the extra fancy bits for the final expansion Gallowfall as individual sprues without such a big investment, now i can finally expand my gallowdark for my new kill team friends to fit four players!

I already purchased proxies for shadowvault extra sprues but i will absolutely wait for gallowfall extra sprues.

I am absolutely going to pick up the Necrons down the line as well!

Good times for kill team!

Most of them explicitly say you can only pick each gun once even if they let you bring multiple gunner specialists. I think Kasrkin can bring 4 special weapons, 2 max of each though cause that's their whole gimmick in 40k along with teleporting in and blowing up a couple units with incredible firepower apparently.
