Another good mail day that I didn't take photos of:

Lullaby covers of Blink 182
Deafheaven - 10 Years Gone

Death Grips - The Money Store

I asked the wife which one to play first and she said "literally anything but the anime album" which cut real deep

I'm also considering a VMP sub - anyone got any pros/cons for subbing?

They have put out some pretty rad poo poo. Dunno about the newer price point. I thought it was expensive at $25. Now it is what, $40+? For records you don't get to really choose? It can be great for getting a new copy of something that was out of print (or never released on vinyl) but with the subscription thing there always seems to be a month with a bunch of crap you don't want. Lol at next month. I've seen that Casey Musgraves go for under $10, Kris Kristofferson is a dollar bin record. Looks like they have Charles Bradley for $42. Still very much in print and you can pick that one up for under $20 usually. Courtney Barnett for $50? Wtf. So yeah. It's really really expensive.

Prices are ridiculous now, but I guess that’s just the trend of vinyl in general. I’ve been a subscriber for a few years and they can at times really knock a release out of the park, but it’s gotten so expensive I doubt I’ll resubscribe when my sub is up in a few months.

They trade heavily on the FOMO of the 2-3 times a year they have a coveted release. For the rest of the subscription you'll find yourself accepting their picks mostly as something you "don't mind" or swapping it for something you actually want, which involves setting reminders for the swapout opening time. Once you've swapped out a bunch of times, you'll have mined out the stuff you want and you're back to accepting Teir 2 picks from their selection. Out of the two years I was a member I probably got 5 records I'm really into and repeat listen. Many others went into my partners collection, or get listened to once as a "oh neat" curiousity.

My advise, use that money on records that you really want. Hell, if your partner is into records and knows your tastes why not give them the cash and ask them to surprise you with an album each month? For the odd FOMO release sign up for 3 months, get your disc and 2 swapouts.

My lasting memory of my time with the service is for the 12th(?) time scrolling through the limited swapout selection and brain-sighing, as if it was a loving chore. Long term it's not a fulfilling way for me to spend money.

and then a few days ago I ordered Pet Symmetry's Future Suits for myself, just got it out of the mailbox tonight. Vinyl is a smoky translucent grey.

What attitude problem?
I’ll echo that VMP has gotten too expensive. I resubscribed at the start of the year for a one year option after getting some unexpected funds and having a good previous year between releases and exclusives. I figured I’d save enough doing it that way compared to the three month subscription I was doing. They increased the price shortly after to the point that I wouldn’t start a new subscription if I was looking at it.

Also as others have said, they’ve gotten wild with their exclusives. A lot of what they’ve offered lately have just been color variants of albums that you could buy at half the cost for a more standard version. Most of the record of the months can be found on discogs for less than the cost of a monthly membership. At the price they’re asking, I just don’t think it can be justified any longer. I’m going to let my sub end after this year. Since they announce the albums in three month batches, I don’t think it would hurt to join for that period. Otherwise, buy what you want online and put that budget to use elsewhere.

And to go with my Scott Pilgrim The Game vinyl, I just ordered the movie's original score double LP.

And I worked on it a few weeks ago but I've got my collection (albeit only 60-ish so far but growing) in a list on discogs if anyone wants to look at what I've got so far and judge me for my bad taste!

I've actually got 2 that are signed, my Good Kid EP (which was signed when ordered online) and Mothica's Blue Hour which I bought and got signed personally by her after I saw her open for Coheed & Cambria this summer.

I have the mono Icky Thump and it's not exactly some big revelation. I got every vault up to a certain point but after a while they got really lackluster and I just said "I have enough of this poo poo already.". Seems like VMP is a good one to pass on then, thanks. Especially as I'd need to fork out international shipping. Gonna put that money into buying some wild Dillinger Escape Plan LPs instead.

Thanks to cataloguing I also found one of my LPs would be sold for about $1100AU which was a neat surprise, considering its for a local Australian band that's not King Gizzard.

You must be watching some 5th gen copies or really beat up tapes. VHS isn't the best by a long shot but well cared for tapes can be passable. I also have pretty low a/v standards though and these tapes haven't been looked at in years; just been mindlessly shuffled from cabinet to cabinet.

I got a free vcr not that long ago. It’s a fancy high end one with a jog wheel and stuff like that. So I was trying it out to see if it works, playing some of the unlabeled tapes that were my brother’s that I’d been carting around through a few moves. The heads were really dirty so it would show like some static and sound, and each time I’d rewind or fast forward you could get a little more picture. Finally I saw Steve Blackman holding a kendo sword and I got to watch some Monday night raw from the late 90s.

I inherited what was left of my dad's VHS collection before he moved (and later passed) and it's just sitting in a bookcase in my room, taking up space. I keep meaning to just toss em all on the curb with a "Free" sign on them but :effort:

Might keep the old WWF tapes, if only for the nostalgia, because I'm sure as hell not going to try and hook up the VCR I have, but part of me says "If you're getting rid of all of them, get rid of ALL OF THEM."

poo poo format too honestly, although cheap horror movies on VHS benefited from the lack of visual sharpness that came with DVD and eventually HD.

VHS is on the rise for collectability right now. A lot of those cheap horror films never got a later release for example and people want them now. Yours might be worth checking if they're worth something. My mother's big blockbuster rom coms and common easily available stuff like the 90s Lost in Space movie and A Christmas Story not so much, but I knew there wouldn't be rare gems going in. Heck, for all I know the old Star Wars trilogy VHS set could be worth something solely because it was before Lucas went back and reedited the films.

Most of what I've got is the Universal monster stuff and some random other crap, nothing particularly rare or valuable and while making a little cash off them has crossed my mind, I'm also lazy as gently caress and would be happy to just have them be out of my possession.

And hot tip to anyone looking to get the original Star Wars trilogy without the special edition fuckery (without spending an arm and a leg for the VHS) I got a bluray from https://sloppysecondsales.com/

Bootleg as hell? Absolutely (all 3 are on one bluray) but they look really good and I can watch Star Wars like I remember as a wee child in the early 90's and all it cost me was $20 or so with shipping. They've got some other good stuff on there, especially if you're looking for obscure Japanese stuff.

Exactly why I was annoyed earlier on a personal, selfish, level that the big record store in town got their doors smashed in and the place robbed: they also deal in CDs, DVDs, and some VHS and dammit I have a stack of the first two to trade in! At least I have more time to whittle down the back log while I contemplate how some group of idiots though it a good idea to steal from a famous, popular, and beloved local business.

Most of the other junk I've been clearing out is random crap, some hobby stuff some not. I really should take a second pass at my music CDs again though and like the third over the records.
