There's a bunch of characters that are their own model from what I can tell based on trying to put regular clothes on them with mods. The various iterations of Zenos for instance, his clothes are locked to him, you can't just put the summer vacation shirt on him. Gaia is the same, her outfit is just built into her model, you can't change her into regular player clothes. Some Scions like Y'shtola mostly use player model but with unique faces. Y'shtola's face is unique but is tied to one of the other player face options and just overrides it I think. Alphinaud and Alisae both share a male body, so gender locked clothes you can put both of them in men's only outfits but not women.

Then you have a characters like Tataru, or Godbert or I think even Graha who you can just completely recreate with what the players get.

There was a brief moment in time where the servers didn't validate the input for hair color and would allow you to set colors unavailable for players to select via memory manipulation.

At least one person in a FFXIV thread of old had such a character and it was amazing.

Yeah in PBC for a while we had a Godbert cosplayer but I haven't heard from them in a while, maybe a mod made them change, maybe they got tired of the gimmick, maybe they moved to TPT. I don't know.

G’raha is mostly player available assets, but the Allagan eyes are more red than the player has access too, yeah.

Estinien is also 100% player assets other than his two hair styles.

Incidentally the Scions actually have player faces model-wise, the reason they have custom faces is just for their textures i.e. the Archon tats and Y’shtola’s eyes from HW on.

This is why there are very convincing Thancreds and Uriangers and such among players.

I think Y'shtola actually does have a full on unique face compared to the others though.

She does have a unique face model in her character data, but its a customized version of one of the face models players can pick. I'm not even sure whats that unique about it.

Neck tattoos and then later eye textures, as said before.

Just like G’raha technically has a custom face but the only custom parts are his tats and eyes.

I thought textures, eye options at least, could be done independently of face model?

No that’s a custom hair. You can tell because the braid is better modeled than the og one.

His ARR model and Exarch models use the player version though (with a custom gradient on the Exarch).

And of course, the classic: most Garleans are a hyur or elezen body with a different head slapped on top. With varying levels of and sources of 'uniqueness'; Varis' face is a modified Xaela.

Figuring out which rig is being reused is always a fun game when there's a new enemy type in a dungeon or raid. Omega being a Gigantoad is probably the best one, but there are also a lot of Zurvans and Sephirots around in the various post-HW raids.
