That's basically why people mostly shut up about the whole flag burning thing. They hated being reminded that the same statute applied to their American flag hat and their American flag beach towel and their American flag wet wipes.

Has this sort of insane cult behaviour ever happened for any previous president? Did people ever drive around in Reagan trucks or have GW Bush flags all over their house? Did Trump break all these brains or were they broken to begin with and he just happened to be the perfect dimwitted spite-golem for them all to latch onto?

quote:Trump activated people who weren't involved in politics He did, because credit where it's due: Trump spoke to people's frustrations and feelings of powerlessness in a way that no one else aside from Sanders did. We all know that Trump never intended to follow through on any of the populist-sounding bullshit he was trying to sell, and that his appeal came with a lot of stoking of racial resentment (which is why he was never really a populist). But looking back on it now, I can understand aspects of Trump's appeal far better than I could in 2016 or '17.

But rather than propose something resembling and actual solution like Sanders, trump just yelled loudly about how he’s the victim and then said again and again that brown and black and gay people were the problem, and was just needed to “drain the swamp.” And that was enough to win the broken, hosed up electoral college. I know I’m oversimplifying this but 2016 really emphasized just how dumb and stupid and animalistic so many people are.

Trump knew how to stir idiots up in all the right ways, which is pretty much the only thing he knows how to do well. It's still loving wild to see people hanging his flags and wearing his merchandise these 2 years later after he lost (bigly lmao) and is now totally out of the political system altogether. Trump is a massive heinous piece of racist poo poo but I can't deny that he knows how to manipulate stupid people. In another life Trump probably could've been a mega-pastor that would've made Joel Osmond look like a rural youth pastor.

When I think about Trump and why people like him, I think there are really two camps. The racial animus camp, and the powerless camp. Both are angry about changing times, and yes they should be. The racial animus camp not so much. The problem is they keep choosing the party that will allow the resources that we bring in to be given to people that actively want to make everyone but the worst/greediest among us lives worse. It all boils down to resentment. Whenever I hear any of these dimwits say hope. I get viscerally angry.

Yep, he identified people's real frustrations and anger, but instead of proposing actual solutions to them (like, say, overthrowing capitalism), he just pointed the finger at minorities and convinced people that they were the cause of those issues. I don't know if it's so much that people are stupid so much as it is that when they're desperate, and there's no strong left to provide a viable alternative, they're trained to just punch downwards instead of up.

jokes posted:they only need to touch the app for a second before they die of an overdose I knew a guy that pogoed his leg falling off a dirtbike during a jump and ended up a hardcore opiate addict, at his worst he had a pill pusher doctor prescribing him fentanyl patches AND lollipops (this was quite a while ago, obv). I saw him put on 3 fentanyl patches over the course of 2 hours one time. Man, he was hosed up, but he never got to any point of serious "oh poo poo" distress. Granted, he was a hardcore addict, but still thats just severe amounts of a drug that WILL MURDER EVEN THE HARDEST-CORE ADDICT. Fentanyl kills people because they aren't expecting to dose it, and every time a video of a cop freaking out about fentanyl exposure makes its rounds it's real funny.

This has always been what right-wing media does, but they did it a bit less directly. Trump was the guy who spoke directly to some broke white meth addict and said "your life sucks because of the jews" and he got a follower for life. I think his first major press conference he singled out "bad hombres", if anyone remembers lol Basically people who really love Trump like that he cuts to the heart of their frustrations without making them think about anything, and indeed praising them for not thinking at all. he loves the uneducated lol
