Kinda neat to see the sudden return of traction as the bridge is connected to earth again. Almost fun if you can keep it off the walls and other cars

LanceHunter posted:It seemed that the sudden return of traction caused the situation to get worse for at least a few of those folks. It usually does. When you're sliding, your wheels are not necessarily pointing in the same direction that your car is moving. When you get on dry ground and the wheels hook up again, they yank the car around hard. This is part of why you are told to steer into a slide -- if you do regain traction, the wheels are pointing more or less in the right direction, and the forces are much less violent. A motorcycle high-side crash is a great visual demonstration of the physics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PH4eXW9_-wQ 1. Bike enters the corner, leaned hard to the right, under throttle. 2. Combination of engine power and cornering force causes the rear wheel to slip. 3. The bike continues forwards following the front wheel, while the rear wheel slides out towards the left. 4. Rider feels this and panics, chopping the throttle. 5. The sudden reduction in power lets the rear wheel regain traction. 6. The wheel bites in, but swung out to the left like that, it gives the bike a powerful shove to the right. 7. This destabilizes the whole vehicle and catapults the rider off the top. It only takes a fraction of a second but you can see every stage in that video Sagebrush fucked around with this message at 23:56 on Feb 3, 2023 |

The really cool thing is that every one of those acorns could have an acorn weevil larva in them so their walls are full of both nuts and thousands of undulating larva.

There's a few similar looking machines parked there along with boxes of parts or tools so I'm guessing it's the front of a repair shop or something? So. The helmet person comes by, is bored, decides to try if the tiller starts by flicking a switch... and finds out.) Nenonen fucked around with this message at 09:44 on Feb 4, 2023 |
