It extremely obviously says "kia" and if you can't see that you are brain damaged. It can't possibly be an N because it's backwards! It's like the people who think Walt Disney's signature says Waly Gisnep even though that makes no goddamn sense.

If you really can't handle the letterforms, just pretend it's an abstract symbol like the Chevrolet logo and you just have to learn what it means.

I don't like the logo, but I do like your commitment to defending it whenever it comes up in this thread.

I *know* it says Kia, but it still says "KN".

Lots of company logos include backward letters, and it is a natural thing to try when parsing a new, unknown logo.

Ultimately, if your logo isn't being read the way you intended, you failed in its design. It's not the fault of the people for misreading it. They're parsing it based on what they've seen before and backwards letters have long been fair game.

Or perhaps KIA is even more clever, in that the design is deliberabely ambiguous to get people arguing about it on the internet which garners free advertising and brand exposure for them.

When I saw the new KIA logo, I just thought they were trying to distance themselves from the OLD KIA logo with this new one

As in before KIA was considered a thrifty brand... read: cheap cars

With the new logo they were hoping get people wondering what car that was, wow it's a KIA really it looks so nice and expensive etc

Might have been said already but I didn't read all the way down the thread

So is BMW claiming trademark violation or patent violation? Because if it's patent - their patent ran out before BMW even bought Mini, at least in the US.

Everywhere that participates in global capitalism has tools for defending the interests of capital. It's just a matter of whether their interests align with the west's, and whether companies in the west can manage to navigate the bureaucracy. A lot of fuckery happens because Western companies do the equivalent of wandering around wearing sandwich boards that say "rich, clueless foreigner."

Yeah no kidding.

FYI: China does have intellectual property laws and they do follow up on complaints and shut companies down for violations. They simply do not care about patents or copyrights that were not filed in China. Most American companies seem to think, with typical American arrogance, that filing in the USA is enough to cover the whole world.

If you have a copyright, trademark, or patent that you want protected and not ripped off by Chinese companies, file it with the Chinese authorities and they will keep an eye on it. But they aren't going to dig through USPTO records on their own time or bother to enforce laws that only apply to Americans.

^^ that would explain why there's so much pro audio gear available on the snide with just without the brand name on it. A lot of gear is made there anyway and I know at least in the past they'd just run a night shift using the same assembly lines at times.

Then other factories get the design, tweak it so they can make it cheaper and get more profit and so on and so forth... I have a book from a guy that used to help run some manufacturing spots years ago. It was pretty interesting.

When they do, it’s from the roof down, especially the drip rails; Generally from being parked near the ocean regularly. Even if it wasn’t, once the sun burns the paint off it starts to rust from the roofskin down.
