Facebook Aunt posted:After the grave danger of death, does the stuff not contaminate the soil and buildings? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinyl_chloride quote:Vinyl chloride is a gas with a sweet odor. It is highly toxic, flammable, and carcinogenic. It can be formed in the environment when soil organisms break down chlorinated solvents. Vinyl chloride that is released by industries or formed by the breakdown of other chlorinated chemicals can enter the air and drinking water supplies. To be fair, most of it's not going to survive burning, and instead will become cool compounds like phosgene. An actual chemical weapon. To be completely clear here, Norfolk Southern Railway committed a chemical weapons attack on Ohio and poisoned this town by deferring maintenance and overworking labor.

So if you have a MOPP suit and a properly rated gas mask, now is the time to go loot the red death zone, is that what I'm hearing?

For once a Colin Furze video that's not about safety violations* where he sets up a new shed with a poo poo load of expensive equipment given to him by a bunch of companies. How many hundreds of thousands (millions?) of dollars of stuff do you all think is in that shed by the end of the video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSY_d9907QY * though there are still several in the video - like spray painting without a mask or eye protection and riding the tines of one of those forklift trucks

I had to prune most my "make goofy stuff" youtube subscriptions because I hate the way the way they ignore basic safety, thus encouraging their largely young viewer base to also treat it frivolously. Furze seems to refuse to wear even the most basic safety gear, maybe because it'd ruin his ~aesthetic~, and it's infuriating. Just wear a loving helmet.

Bloody Hedgehog posted:Who's in charge of Nature-OSHA? The clifs in that part of the coast are all built up from barely compressed sand and cobbles. It's only the dry climate that keeps them from just melting into nothing - but when we get storms this stuff happens. An OSHA aspect to it is the fact that a couple sections of the rail line between San Diego and LA were built right on the edge of the cliffs and get undercut and shut down pretty often. Between normal erosion and the rising sea level, those tracks only have a few years left in them, but nobody can commit to a plan for moving them. We're probably going to see an Amtrak slide into the sea in the next few years.
