I'm really impressed how nice the Prime remaster looks. I'll probably end up checking it out at some point his year after when the physical copies come out. 1 was basically the only one of the trilogy I liked anyway.

edit: What a horrible snipe. I just wish Prime had any sense of speed at all. Like the main series. Anyway, that's my post.

So why Super Mario Land 2, but not 1, is included in the Gameboy lineup? I’d expect 1 before 2. Just kind of weird.

Prime 2 has some major pacing issues in the early game. It's not until you get to Torvus that it feels like a proper Metroid and that's like three hours in.

Price notwithstanding, i appreciate they separated the prime games (assuming the trilogy was planned at some point) so each game has a chance to stand out on its own, especially if they make all 3 look this good.

Same with Wario Land 3. I guess because they’re the best looking of the series on the Gameboy? Mario Land 1 looks quite primitive even compared to other GB games and WL3 was in color.

For a very long time, Metroid Prime was my favorite game of all time. For anyone in this thread who has never played it, you're in for a real treat. I'll never forget the first time I stepped out of the spaceship into the rain on Tallon and just looked around, seeing the rain drops splash on the visor, and then that main theme kicks in...man. One of my greatest game memories ever.

yeah i remember it being a little bit of a drag to sit around in the light bubbles to get your energy back before but that's much less of a problem when you've got twenty neglected discord servers to check on your phone

also i really grew to appreciate how it felt to camp out in those cozy little safe spots for a bit before running back out into the death dimension. it really made the place feel genuinely hostile! it's kind of great!

Alphadream poured a ton of time and money into developing the 3D look for Dream Team, found that they were extremely in the red for it despite Dream Team selling decently, then rushed out the Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story remakes as quick cash grabs after Paper Jam didn't sell great and that ironically killed their studio. Pretty sad story. Hope that the talent got retained somewhere because, as bad as the tutorials may have gotten, I always enjoyed the weird turn-based ARPG battle system of Mario and Luigi games where you had to execute attacks and dodges.

If you like downloading the Japanese versions of the Switch Online apps to get at the extra region-exclusive games, I did a quick check of the JP direct to see which games were mentioned that weren't mentioned in the English one.

Available in the Game Boy app:
Yakuman

Coming to the Game Boy app:
For The Frog The Bell Tolls

Available in the GBA app:
No region exclusives, oddly

Coming to the GBA app:
Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade

Yakuman is a launch-title mahjong game, so no great loss. For The Frog The Bell Tolls is a great RPG by what would become the Link's Awakening team, and I highly recommend checking out the English fan-translation patch that's out there. Binding Blade was the first GBA Fire Emblem, and the last game to be released before the series reached the west. I don't think it's gonna get an official after the fact translation...

Imagine one of those oldschool dungeon crawler maze games except you have to draw the map yourself to keep track of where you have and haven't been, and also Yuzo Koshiro's going utterly ballistic with a chiptune soundfont in the background.
