The President would get a visit after the first one if this was the case. In case of a miss, the pilot can push a button to have the missile safely home in on the nearest wedding or market, thereby ensuring it does not come back and target the plane that shot it. Must have been too far out of range though, out over the water, so it probably flew in circles for a bit before running out of fuel.
