Also I don't think I've ever actually heard her speak so I have no idea how bland she is. So that's a no from me, I'm not voting for a party lead by someone whose social views mirror Peter Hitchens. There's John Swinney being talked about but he already had a totally forgotten run as leader after Salmond resigned the first time, & when he was leader the SNP was a mess between the "indy now" & "indy sometime" factions. There's Angus Robertson, former leader at Westminster, there's Humza Yousef although he might be divisive. Genuinely I have no loving idea who will throw their hat in the ring

I haven't been following things that closely lately but my first reaction is that I can only take this resignation by Sturgeon as bad news. Whatever the problems with the SNP, it feels like a victory for reactionaries. Big one, too.

Angus Robertson continuity Sturgeon candidate, calling it now. Kate Forbes is too much of a religious weirdo, and Humza is too much of an arrogant prick. Mhairi Black is obviously the dream candidate but probably too early in her career. Plus she doesn't have any experience of actually running stuff. Anyway not an SNP member so don't get a say. They should disband imho and merge with the Greens into a sort of edgy but liberal anti UK bloc (basically what the current scotgov is anyway). Equivocating on the Isla Bryson stuff made her look weak. She could and should have got a grip on the reactionary elements of her party and passed it years ago.

I know this is the doomer thread and the greens do have a terfy strain in their "middle class oxbridge tree-liking tory belt" contingent but at the very least they have trans rights enshrined at the conference/manifesto level and as far as proper economic left wing policies go they're actually *courting* my vote, rather than saying "lol gently caress off" like Labour is. Yeah, I wish there were a stronger, more likely to win party but there's not, so gently caress it. If you've got a minority party with decent socialist politics where you are, vote for them, sure. Or not, but like, if you truly believe that the country is hosed until people start throwing bricks, pick up a brick. Being cynical about what would happen if lefties went with whatever party labour SHOULD be but aren't on here accomplishes nothing. Here's me in my bubble: went out at the weekend with a bunch of queer friends and made ourselves seen, had a few too many drinks and shouted myself hoarse and it felt so loving good to be amongst people with some joy and optimism in their hearts, right now. I know it helps nothing, and it's indulgent (like, how NICE to be able to have a night out) but if all I did was tut at the news I'd become a bitter shut-in aging queen. Some of us are going to the Brianna Ghey vigil later. The country DOES suck in a lot of ways but if you think it's irredeemable I'm begging you to find someone in your life who still believes in something.

I did actually quite enjoy the game right up until you go through the first dimensional portal thing, at which point the game entirely fell apart both narratively and gameplay wise - the classic Bioshock problem of enemies becoming unfun bullet sponges, useless plasmids, introducing new guns after spending hundreds of dollars upgrading my old ones, the one boss I shouldn't need to name because everyone knows what I mean when I talk about the one very bad boss near the end of the game. But mostly yeah the story was a wreck and couldn't decide what it wanted to be about. I'm sorry for derailing today's news repeatedly with football and game talk btw. I'm quite down about this all, just seems like a big win for both tories and anti-trans reactionaries.
