My friend once cornered a pair of PMCs in Kiba with what must have been the rest of the Pscavs on the map. He told me they just chanted over VoIP and banged on the glass with melee attacks as the PMCs tried and failed to push out with grenades. I don’t think anyone made it out, or at least my friend definitely didn’t.

Ran a 3 man night time woods yesterday. Ran into a duo, my two mates died, I got hurt pretty bad. Another pmc comes out of nowhere and smokes the two guys, and starts voiping with me asking if I'm OK, and we buddy up for the rest of the raid.

I fully expected him to kill me at the extract, but instead he cleared out all the scavs at out skirts and made sure I got out safe while we just chit chatted.

Haven't had a friendly encounter like that since the early days that VoIP was added.

I have had one bizarre but welcome friendly encounter where I was scavving alone on Woods and a PMC who overheard me rifling through poo poo tentatively said ‘…cheeki breeki?’, then when I F1’d back at him he was like ‘hey I killed a couple guys over here and can’t carry all their stuff’ and led me over to their bodies and then promptly ran away

there was some good poo poo on those dudes, too

Generally you'll have a better time gaming because mo' pixels mo' better.

For Tarkov specifically though, probably more than just about any other game, more pixels = you see more = you're better off. When engagements can start at a range where your enemy is just a little blob of pixels, having the higher fidelity helps with identification.

I can't imagine trying to play this in 1080p, you brave soul.

Yes 100%

I was able to do it on 3440x1440 with a 7700k and 2080 but it wasn’t the best experience. Once I went 12th gen and 3080ti it was amazing.

Factory is my best map lol

Not sure about benchmarking with Tarkov. I know it's terribly optimised and CPU heavy.

I had a i5-6600/GTX1060 and it struggled with Tarkov at 1080x60hz. I upgraded to an i5-12400 and it is now constantly at 60hz.

I think I'd probably go to a 3060 if i upgraded to 1440p, but i am not sure what kind of frames i would get with that.

Yea, last night I decided to finally do this quest.

The good news is the area includes the office and both floors under it from stairwell to stairwell.

I had a horrible time because as mentioned, everyone dies before getting to the office, or as last night went, they're camping gate 3.

The one "good" raid i had ended with a guy camping the door to one of the stairwells with a ks23.

Your going to lose money doing the quest. I ended up doing a scav run between attempts, using the kit from that but with a fresh gun.

I did 6 or so factory runs last night, getting a kill most runs, but only one of them was in the designated area.

So at this rate its going to be 30 raids to get the 6 kills.

I had a loving terrible time with Secured Perimeter on my first season and didn’t finish it until wipe week. I don’t remember which streamer gave this advice, but his procedure was to rush the office, loot the safe while listening for footsteps, and just leave if no one else comes to fight you. That worked for me the next season and I got it done in two days tops.

It's one you want to do early wipe if you can. You might also try night factory, there are two quests that require getting into the breach room in the office area and a lot of people trying to get them done quietly will go at night

Also, a VOG-25 has a near perfect fuse time from one stairway to the other in office. Nothing like tossing one and seening the enemy peek before they get vogged.

Yeah that’s a solid pick. If you can find a working/ish VSS that’s an absolute terror in Factory even against MP7 chads. That said, I got my second season Secured Perimeter with an M9 magdump, then took the guy’s Krink and killed his friend camping the gate.

pretty much all of the pvp quests are stupid as poo poo but BSG's attitude is "quit if you don't like it" and they don't care that many people actually do because they can run a twitch drops campaign for a week or two and gain god knows how many new accounts, most of which are bought by dumbasses who won't even place any stress on the servers because they'd rather watch streams for 2 straight weeks to gain ~80k roubles worth of drop loot instead of actually playing the game and earning 500 times that much

M80 and loving green tip of all things getting pushed up a week into the wipe was bad, but the wall debuffs and a bench press QTE on top of Streets running like utter trash was a hypercombo of bad design. One: if I want to bench more I will go back downstairs to the actual gym. Two: the stability and security of their code base is falling apart but that is how they’re spending their time? gently caress that; I want healthy stress not constant frustration.

I tried the single player thing yesterday and it was pretty neat. Runs way better and smoother compared to the online version. One downside is that PMC spawns are linked with scav spawns.

What spawn mods do you guys use?

AllOpenZones is good for scrambling up spawns. BetterSpawnsPlus adds a few extra bits to make it not as focused on spawning AI.

There's also POOP and SWAG to change up what spawns exactly.

For consideration, there's also the BepinEx plug in that's professionally named "FU Inertia". Does what you think to Inertia.

Other mods I'd rec include: Valens's Progression, Softcore, Realistic Plates System, AI Limit.

Converts literally every armor into a rig that only takes plates, based on what it would normally cover. To counter, it adds up to Class 7 plates of every type. Ragman sells 'em on install.

So yes, 3M armor protecting as much as a Slick on roids is a thing. Or you could wear that one full armor set and run super fast.

Munitions Expert, BetterKeys, ItemInfo and Hideout Architect are must have's as well. It's the type of poo poo that should be in Tarkov but instead BSG wants you to memorize every loving quest, worthwhile key, hideout item you need or have an ipad or second monitor up with all the information you need to remember.

Also, I max out most of my skills so I can search two things at once and get an instant search about 30% of the time. Pack mags fast as gently caress and give a little boost to my healing so I heal faster but still keep enough skill to gain for the progression feeling.
I will say the biggest pain is getting the spawns right but yea the mods help or just put AI Amount to Medium/High helps.

I can't play Tarkov anymore because I feel like I'm just waiting for poo poo half the game between searching cabinets, waiting for a round to start, etc...gently caress that. Then to do it every wipe, hahahaha, any quest I don't wanna do, just edit the config to complete and be done.

I have now been playing this for about a week and I think I want to either give this Single Player Tarkov thing a try or just set the game down. I managed to get a group of four friends to play it with and after playing it for 3-4 nights with them I am now the only member of the group with any interest in even trying to continue, with the last one having given up on it tonight.

Very occasionally there is a really good and fun match, but almost all of them instead go one of two ways:
- we never see a single living person and the raid is just us walking from spawn to exit and picking up some items along the way
- all 5 of us are all instantly killed by one person 1-3 minutes into the raid without ever seeing them or getting a chance to fire back

The last straw for my one remaining teammate was tonight on Factory, when the two of us were split up behind two different pieces of cover, with our guns trained on a corner, and a guy came around and instantly snapped onto one of us with robotic precision, killed him with a single burst, and then instantly rotated 90 degrees to snap onto me and drop me with a single burst, so quickly that neither of us managed to get a shot off even though we were aiming right at him. We called it there and just switched to a different game.

My group seemed to be the only new people playing and the playerbase seems to be almost exclusively people who have the 140-dollar super-limited edition and have been playing for 1000 hours, so I'm not sure if what we were encountering was the rampant cheating this game is apparently notorious for or if it was just players who are way, way, way better than us, but either way, it just isn't very much fun. The punishingly long downtime between raids makes it even more frustrating - between extremely long load times and the several minutes it takes to gear up and prepare, the majority of the game is spent in load screens or menus. The game helpfully tells you exactly how much of your finite life you have wasted staring at the load screen, and for the run that ended our night, we waited for 3:48 for a raid that ended in less than two and a half minutes.

If it were just a bad game it'd be whatever, but this game scratches a very specific itch and everything about it seems like it should be exactly my poo poo, which is what makes it so frustrating. I want to like this game quite badly, and when it works it's a very satisfying experience, it just almost never works. it feels like it is actively hostile to new players specifically and also just people having fun in general. I feel kind of bad now for having talked multiple people into spending 45 dollars on this game they will probably never play again.

This has made me reinstall STALKER with the Anomaly mod, though, and I am looking forward to playing around with that again. The gunplay in Tarkov is substantially better but I at least spend the majority of my time in STALKER actually playing STALKER, and when I am killed instantly by something I didn't see I can just mash quickload. Also I can pull up a map and list of objectives on my PDA in the game instead of on my phone in real life

What a childish tactic!
Don't you think you should put more thought into your battleplan?!

If you're looking for another game to potentially scratch that Tarkov/Stalker Rat itch, you could check out Zero Sievert. Its a top down game though, not a FPS. In a few days its going to get a set of customizable difficulty options that'll allow setting up an even more tarkov like experience. Currently dying just resets you back to your status before the raid, however the options will include the option to drop some or all of the gear you took into the raid. Combine that with various other options such as trader prices and enemy loot drops and I'm looking forward to setting up a much more tarkov like raid experience. And it was already pretty good at scratching that Tarkov/Stalker itch for me, personally.

Alternatively, try the Stalker GAMMA modpack for Anomaly (its modpacks on modpacks!). Thats pretty fun and is definitely pulling ideas from Tarkov.

There's also Kiki's AllTheBoss mod.

Lets you control what bosses spawn where, including raiders and rogues. I have all the bosses set to spawn 100% on factory so right as one die another spawns in (with escorts) shortly after. Boss rush mode in intense lol

The server value mod is also real good because it lets to change everything; if I want to go to PMC quests I'll set it to convert 100% of scav spawns to PMC, or sniper's only to PMC, etc, to ensure that I have a ton of PMCs to kill.

I can't speak to the level of cheating (difficult to tell with ultra-low TTK and no killcam/match rewatch), but i think there is a bit of a bias that you are only told that someone has the Bad With Money edition if they have killed you.

People with that version are likely to have more hours and so are more likely to kill you. You'll never know whether the guy you just killed had a standard account.

That said, there's a preconception that the noble Bad With Money Whale could never be outplayed by the lowly Poverty Edition Rat, so the rat must be cheating. I killed a 3-man yesterday and SBH'd a lvl 54 player, so my Rat account is probably in a report queue.

VVVVVVVVVV I mean if you kill them. I don't think it is on the dogtag or on the summary screen that shows scav/PMC kills. Maybe I'm missing it.
