Some pretty electrifying footage has come back from a brass-balled member of the Ukranian 92nd Mechanized running around his trench like a mad lad while getting shot at by a 30mm, shutting that down, and then engaging some RU guys trying to enter his trench. War in HD is hosed up. The soldier who filmed this is still alive, I lost the link to his telegram though, sorry. Be warned you can very clearly see this guy killing folks in full view, so don't watch if that will have an adverse impact on you. He could have been loading ammo, uncrating ordinance, calling for fire, working the radio, etc. There are a billion things that are required to function and win in combat. That said, there is also a good chance, he just wasn't cut out for the fight. It happens. I've seen the best trained, best equipped soldiers in the world hide in combat. It is not a lack of character or bravery, it's that the human psyche is not cut out for that experience. If that's the case, I admire the hell out of him because he knows what he can't do, but he is doing what he can. If I'm in a fight, I'd rather the guy next to me feed me mayhem than sit, stone dead and still breathing. E- I say this with some similar experiences in combat.

I have to second that, dude is being helpful as he can. If he can't shoot, having someone giving you fresh ammo or anything to help is extremely important. Support is always good.

If I were in charge of Ukraine's PR I would be quietly amplifying this as much as possible. It's a perfect microcosm of the war writ-large - a massively outnumbered and outgunned Ukrainian standing his ground and literally throwing everything he's got at the attackers, with another guy who clearly doesn't want to be there at all and is barely hanging on but is still trying to do his bit. It tugs on every underdog supporting instinct.

There are some absolutely wild details in that clip. Some of the debris kicked up by incoming is in absolutely poo poo-your-pants locations. And that vehicle is close enough you can see the tarp pulsing with every shot, so of course home boy pops out and nails it. I would not be sure I'm brave enough to even be the ammo feeder in that trench.

I read elsewhere on the forums, or possibly on Reddit, that the guy whose POV we get in that footage was interviewed, and his response to what was going on with the other person in the trench with him was, effectively, "he was not able to handle what was happening, he was terrified and doing the best he could, but wasn't processing it coherently." Apologies that I can't find the source right now, so take it with a grain of salt, but it seems in line with what bulletsponge13 describes. Also, sorry to jump in as an outsider to the subforum. I lurk here because this thread has far and away the most informative and humane discussion of the war I've seen anywhere, but as a civilian I try to leave the actual discussion to you folks.
