Comrade Blyatlov posted:I asked in the Ukraine thread as well, but I'm assuming if they bag POTUS Russia gets turned into glass? It would sure be a comedically fast way for rapid enforcement of the pre-2014 geographical lines by actual NATO troops. Suddenly, Russian propaganda comes true!

It would probably start with deconfliction, i.e. laying out the engagement up front, saying "we're going to turn every Russian troop in Ukraine into fertilizer for sunflowers in precisely 24 hours, this is your head start to run", and then following through with that promise. What happens after that is anyones guess, but what would be important would be the US/NATO not going one centimeter further than what they declared they were going to do, to avoid potentially causing a nuclear escalation, but all of this is deep Clancychat because Russia is not and would not be stupid enough to take a swing at any NATO heads of state. The leadership of Russia is evil, but they're very aware they're outmatched by the West in terms of boom, aside from nuclear weapons.

I have no idea why sometimes you get a morbid feeling I guess. Pretty solid cinematography for The Day After as well. Much of the film holds up extremely well for its age and budget. John Lithgow is pretty stellar imo

For less grim quality 80s Lithgow, Terms of Endearment is excellent. One of my favorite nuclear themed 80s films is Special Bulletin, the framing device is tv news coverage of an incident in South Carolina. Excellent plot, acting, and tension, plus a five second Michael Madden cameo. Whole thing is on YouTube.
