This is why it's important that any QCS replacement be open discussion instead of being restricted to user/mod or whatever. Thank you.

Considering how the admins don't even talk to their moderators, I'm sure not a single one of those QCS threads will even get an admin reply.

ehhhh that's one perspective. another is that when it became clear that astral was calm enough to start undoing some of the damage, everyone tried to slowly walk him through some reasonable actions to try and fix his mess. over the course of a few pages, he slowly started unbanning people as long as people were posting nicely and softly at him like a toddler. he didn't apologize or explain himself, he just parroted the reasons that people were giving him to unban people until he got to synthy and stopped. he then tried to justify the synthy ban with utter nonsense and closed the thread when it was clear it wouldn't fly

Also I thought the Saga regulars drummed you out of these threads for being one of those bloodlust war posters?

Yeah, "just don't read it" isn't good advice. Like, what if there was revenge porn thread, or white supremacist chat thread, or whatever? That poo poo's not OK and I don't want it on the forums. That's not brigading or causing forums drama; it's basic minimum standards for morality.

There's a serious difference between posting actual news about the war and whatever the GBS thread has become. That thread actually didn't START that way. It used to be maps, reports from locals etc and was generally informative and then morphed into something else. Wanting news about wars/world events is normal. Treating it like a team sport is fuckin' weird.

Their viewpoint is that they want to be informed of what's going on but dude it's just a Twitter RSS feed with no discussion. I get that some people want (and should) be informed of the situation but then there's the subtext of the glee in death and destruction that's in any twitter-less post. I don't think the thread should be eradicated but it's a very dissonant thread that I don't really understand.

the dnd and cspam ukraine threads both serve whatever functions you'd want to have (talking troop movements/current events and shitposting about it.) its pretty clear the gbs thread just exists so a handful of people can cheerlead about poo poo without getting owned by other posters. its more of that isolation stuff that the administration supposedly wants to avoid, but lol at doing anything about it.

It's weird to me that the immediate response to people pointing out the hosed up posts wasn't "wow those posts are bad, we should get rid of them" it was unhinged assertions that people are russian agents being paid to ruin the thread. That type of mentality isn't healthy and leads to crap like the weirdo melting down in the Games chat thread about how if you live in Russia you deserve to be murdered lol.

it's hard for me to articulate yeah. There's obviously going to be a moral aspect to how people respond to a country invading another country and i don't think the thread has to like, remain totally neutral, but there's this weird sense of triviality and entertainment about the whole thing that's really disturbing.

And yeah this is where I'm at - the GBS Ukraine thread *was* doing okay for a while, and already got cleaned up once when it slipped. But I guess Kit took that call to clean it up personally so instead of continuing to be vigilant about that there's just two useless IKs now and anyone pointing out that people are getting weird again is met with declarations of forums war. It's deeply stupid and an entirely unforced error.

But also if you give a poo poo about Ukraine war news (and it is entirely valid to not be plugged into that despite what the people in that thread may think) you shouldn't be coming to Something Awful for it, period. We are not a peer reviewed aggregator, to put it mildly.
