e: and this guy is also shown to be a broker for a romulan dissident that has "world ending poo poo" or whatever raffi keeps saying, i don't think it he's low on the crime totem pole. if he is then why would worf be staking him out?

I don't think Worf was staking out Sneed so much as shadowing Raffi to make sure she didn't go anything stupid and get herself killed, which she was basically guaranteed to do because she's a gently caress up who loves going rogue.

lol that's a good point

i kinda get the sense that worf was like "nah not gonna do an in-person meet" because he's just using her for some unspecified purpose right now. she's comically bad at it to the point that even if it's misdirection it's still poorly written

Riker popping in throughout the episode with a bunch of “c’mon seriously?”s was wonderful.

Riker was basically the audience in this one and it’s great.

I agree with John Wick of Dogs though, I don’t get the Vadic love here. She’s a cartoon caricature of a Star Trek movie villain so far. She’s the bad guy who shows up in the first 30 seconds of a Lower Decks holomovie episode and just cackles while trying to kill Mariner.

The writers: Look, she's played by Christopher Plummer's daughter, she laughs like a loose cannon, and she proves how edgy she is because she smokes and uses a cool lighter... she's basically the trifecta!

she went maximum ham with it, which is probably appropriate. i don't have high expectations though

Riker solves every mystery in the first five minutes, but has to follow Picard around as he takes five times as long to reach the same conclusion.

Yeah she's like live-action Vindicta or something, it's weird. Also lol that the speech they used in the trailer that made it sound like she was on some sort of personal vendetta against Picard was just the speech here used as a threat about how mean she is. It would be totally hilarious if the "most cunning foe Picard ever fights" was just some simple bounty hunter who has a lot of guns and keeps messing up their attempts to stop the real big conspiracy because she must always get her bounty.

picard & riker in: "where did the time go?"

an episode in which admiral picard (retired) insists his youth has been stolen by time burglars. an angry yet also retired riker knows the truth but is hesitant to reveal it to his quite literally old mentor

i don't completely disagree, but that was a little *cough* over the top

i mean, worf in DS9 clearly kills a lot of people, as do sisko, kira, o'brien, dax etc. (but not julian, the doctor, or odo the lawman, with one exception). it's unusual for them to keep mowing people down and it's only been two episodes

i guess that circles back to "these really shouldn't have been split into two parts" though. pretty much everything suffers for it, including the audience

TNG had an episode that had such a gorey scene in "Conspiricy" - Picard and Riker kill the leader parisite which leads to the host exploding from the waist up - that they had to run a special content warning.

I would fully expect Terry Matalas to have the same dumb childbrained outlooks on a lot of the poo poo that happened in Season 1 and 2 TNG as JJ Abrams and Chris Terrio did in regard to "Why didn't they give Chewie a medal in A New Hope? We should write it into our movie that Chewie finally gets a medal! That's a scene that HAS to be in there, no mater what else we cut."

Only it's like giving Groppler Zorn his due, or taking a five minute detour to the Code of Honor planet to go "See, not racist :imunfunny:" or something. I mean, they're already bringing Tasha back some how...

I just checked to make sure and Matalas said that Tasha's not going to appear in Season 3 and Denise Crosby was just talking out of her rear end, but that Tasha well be referenced somehow, so it'll probably be "Hey, remember Tasha's Widows XP home page hologram thing? Remember? Huh? Huuuh? Anyone?"

i've never really been particularly interested in the sela arc. the whole thing just seems like denise crosby regretting leaving the cast, so they gave her a role

i know "yesterday's enterprise" is a mostly-beloved episode but i think it's really not good lol. admittedly making that her provenance probably soured me a bit on the character but she's just not a good actress, either

i mean, yeah: tasha was pretty terribly written, but crosby's performance didn't help anything
