OMG went to the local metal store that was the size of your living room. No joke, it was this cool hole in the wall place where 5 people would always be in there looking at records and basically queueing around the room.

They posted last weekend that they were remodeling for better use of space.

I went in tonight to nose around, and the room was empty. No one was there!

On one of the other doors in the room, that I thought was a water closet or something, there was an arrow pointing to the door knob.

I opened the door, and it was like.. heaven opening, it was a nice and big room filled with metal and punk music everywhere. They expanded into some business that was next door that left! Hell yes.

I found these and snatched them up!

This'll do nicely until Jari harnesses the power of quantum computing to help him piece together one 20-minute song with 20,000 tracks and 50 orchestras. This sounds very much like Wintersun, which means it sounds good. Loudass drums like Fleshgod's 'Agony', which is fine by me.

I'm in the mood for something corny, but a very particular flavor of corny. What's something with like a heroic, epic bearing that isn't power metal but like, songs dwarves would let echo in the halls of their ancestors? Like deep vocals, dramatic drumming, stuff like that?

Not literally "this is a band about dwarves" like Wind Rose or Gimli son of Gloin, though the latter kicks rear end.

Not sure why dwarves would listen to metal music. They're all about the hustle and grind, accumulating gold and precious gems. There's some other genres of music that capture that better.

In Norse mythology, dwarves resided in Jotunheim:

The Poetic Edda posted:

Yggdrasil shakes, and shiver on high
The ancient limbs, and the giant is loose;
To the head of Mim does Othin give heed,
But the kinsman of Surt shall slay him soon.
How fare the gods? how fare the elves?
All Jotunheim groans, the gods are at council;
Loud roar the dwarfs by the doors of stone,
The masters of the rocks: would you know yet more?

Also they resided in Schwarzalbenheim and this song just sounds great

It's very funny that Dino apparently auditioned hundreds of people and ended up going with a guy who sounds EXACTLY like Burton, including the questionable clean vocal technique.

Fear Factory was probably my key gateway band into extreme metal, so I'll always have a soft spot for them. I interviewed Burton and Dino during the Mechanize tour, and they were extremely nice and generous with their time, so I'm extra bummed to see Burton out of the band. Milo really does seem like an upgraded clone version at him at this stage of their career, though. Burton had been lip-syncing the clean vocals for the past decade or so, and they were more miss than hit even when he was at his peak, so it's cool that they can finally replicate the studio material live without having to actually have it playing in the background during the shows.

I honestly think the first 2 singles have been great, but phewwwwwwewwwww this is bad, like genuinely embarrassing. It didn't start great with those awful triggered snares, then the riffs are basically like they're trying to avoid accidentally playing Enter Sandman, and when it gets to that chorus lyric I literally facepalmed. "If darkness had a son, here I am... Temptation is his father!" What. The. Hell.

At this stage I don't expect them all to be winners, so I guess we'll see.

As a general "new Metallica isn't the best but it's not bad!" apologist, this is... unfinished? If Lux Aeterna was them trying to make a Kill em All Track, this kinda sounds like they wanted to make an ...And Justice For All track, but left a ton of bloat in places (a minute and a half intro that just plods) and didn't do enough interesting things in others (riffs that just aren't exciting).

It kinda just baffles me that Metallica can write such generic riffs that I forget as soon as the song is over - I know they're a ton older than when they were in the 80's, but I'd like to think they could take their time and take a day or two per track to start with "this riff just doesn't stick in my mind, lets try another"
