Basic as hell
Finally hit the point where it became clear no further progress would be made without unionizing in my workplace - wasn't having any luck finding any locals with someone answering the phone so I guess we will see which of the ones I reached out to will respond.

It is astonishing to me the kind of poo poo people will say when they think they can't be held accountable.

some unions (like CWA) do most of their organizing through a national or regional system instead of by the locals. i'd just fill this out and let them figure out which union has the capacity to help https://aflcio.org/formaunion/contact

edit: which is not to say you need to, or should, go through AFLCIO. Workers United is worth reaching out to as well but they have a lot on their plate with sbux.

And the Lord said, "Look, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is only the beginning of what they will do; nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.
Just confirmed that I was selected to represent my local at the regional council meeting. Any advice on how to contribute? Also, we're just entering negotiations for a new CBA, and management wants to negotiate a single CBA with us and two other locals that are part of the same union and do basically the same work, but are in different areas of the country. I'm personally not opposed to it as we communicate with each other already and trust each other, but are there any specific difficulties we should watch out for?

UAW has been supporting organizing efforts at the fremont factory for years, but none of them have been successful since as people mention they go absolutely scorched earth, like firing entire teams if one person is suspected of union activities and telling everyone that the union will take away all of their discounted employee stock. imo they've avoided any of the bad press or public blowback that eg starbucks or amazon have been getting off of the strength of elon's untouchable personal brand that had let him get away with everything, but he's blown that up enough lately that people may care.

like a thousand+ people signed this thing and a hundred people came up and helped pin it to the wall outside management’s office martin luther style. it’s like 3’x10’, seriously impressive in person. definitely built up energy for the strike we’re gearing up for, and a few of the admin types that stumbled up on us in the middle of it were visibly shook.

you have the gift of prophecy, this is exactly what happened. they still haven’t taken it down lmao. i’ve been sending up as many people as i can to to check it out.

energy feels good, people are pissed about how badly we’ve been getting screwed, even more so than other healthcare systems in the area. even my immediate management is sick of it because they can’t retain staff (lmao). I’m going to get trained to be a union rep in March and will do everything i can to keep this energy up!

as an american i'm curious about other countries' labor contracts that allow these labor federations to declare "we're all striking" to protest a political issue. do they not have no-strike clauses? are those just an American thing? are no-strike clauses even allowed in other countries? or are technically illegal but they're just striking anyway, knowing that the government won't go PATCO on them because they have so much power?

no strike clauses are an american invention of the last 60ish years. Hell the entire concept of collective bargaining agreements was developed by us govt when they established the NLRB to put clear legal limitations on workers
