Thing is, it's not just the HS article. I remember that sorry rear end photo of him with the mug, and how Yle itself contacted him for comment at the time.

The article can be found here https://yle.fi/a/3-12388318 and yeah not only a fraudster but did time for drug smuggling in Sweden, lol.

All the more puzzling because when contacted by Yle he told them he spent his time trying to avoid any duty (why does Google translate this as "sniper"??) and "as far as he knows" he isn't a high ranking official.

So yeah, what the gently caress? I think I'll contact Yle to see what the confusion is about.

Might be a good idea, because by this point I have made note of the journalists name and won't share more of his Ukraine material in the future. Like the absolute minimum you need to do is to goddamn google the names of the people you interview!

I wanted to point out also that nahuman from the D&D Ukraine thread had translated the rebuttal article over here: https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=4014579&pagenumber=232#post530156696

There was also an earlier translation of the article I posted here, and a discussion of both in there if you are interested in that. I think it is awesome that so many are translating articles by this point that I accidentally doubled one! :v: I need to start reading the D&D thread again!

It appears to be not a false flag, there's information that these guys are members of the Russian volunteers' corps fighting for Ukraine, and identified as such by the OSINT community.

Ukraine's Defense Ministry intelligence believes the reports of clashes in the Bryansk region are "a continuation of Russia's transformation, its purification and liberation from Putin's dictatorship."

Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, told us this in a commentary.

"Today, the Russian Federation is an entity within which there are a large number of interethnic, interethnic, interreligious, socio-political and other conflicts. Today there is a public statement by the RDC. These are people who are fighting with arms against the Putin regime and those who support it... Perhaps Russians are starting to wake up, realize something and take some concrete steps," Yusov says.
This seems like an indirect confirmation, if the Defense Intelligence saw fit to release this statement.

Those idiots are actually volunteer Russian dudes fighting for Ukraine against Russia. One of them in the pic is literally the head of the group of anti-putin Russians. They are probably doing inflammatory poo poo because they lack brain cells or whoever is supposed to be wrangling foreign legion fighters lost track of these particular idiots.

E: or Ukrainian intelligence and their MoD is privy to information that we're not as forums posters and think that this will weaken Putin's hand somehow.

That's been their main use so far, as defense against Shaheds and other drones. They've also been used in support fire roles on the battlefield, as well. The problem is there's not enough to form a complete net of protection just yet, and unfortunately that's why three of them got through in Khmelnitskiy during the last drone swarm.

Not sure how you'd operate a ground-based jammer like that within artillery range without getting smoked very fast. With the amount of rf a jammer puts out I can't imagine we don't have equipment capable of triangulating it the moment it lights up.

I wouldn't be surprised if we can pick it up from satellite and use the Earth's surface as the intercept.

These losses are completely unsustainable. Just an absolutely enormous amount of armor lost to capture a strategically insignificant town and they haven't even taken Bakhmut. And if/when they do take Bakhmut, the Ukrainians have dug another series of defensive structures to the west and Russia will have to do it all over again.

Which is probably more an indication to how important an objective the town is to their continued campaign, given that from Vuhledar the Ukrainians have a convenient location to push towards Volnovakha and interdict the supply line there.

Mirage 2000C don't strike me as an amazing option but I assume they'd have some newer gizmos, access to western payloads and break the reluctance to be the first. Plus France might have a reasonable number of them recently retired to keep handing over.

Keep in mind that 2000C have been in service until very recently with several modernization programs. In some respects, it might be more modern avionic-wise than some F16 options that were suggested some time ago.
