I’m pretty sure that trying to do a bed logout/save in a ship has at best had a 50/50 chance of succeeding for the past 5-6 years. But to be fair, no game has ever had the ability to save progress. The entire industry is still using save codes for individual levels. It’s just another way that CIG is on the cutting edge.

The funniest thing is, if it was something they had waited until they'd actually finished the base game (lol) it would be something they should of been able to make fairly quickly as they would already have a working engine and a whole bunch of relevant art assets already completed. Like it's such an obviously stupid and wasteful way to do things.

wasn't it just a few weeks ago the subreddit were hyping themselves up with "now they haven't talked about squadron 404 for a while, we know that means they're working hard, so thatt must mean closed beta in q2, release in q3????"

instead it's "guys guess what, we are working on being able to: save your game"

The Space/Dogfight team continued working to get all of the ship combat sections of the game flowing seamlessly into the social and FPS sections. They also continued working with the various Feature teams to get critical system updates integrated into the game flow. Last month, they further improved quantum travel and pinned targets. Save and load was also worked on alongside Gameplay Features.

That's one of the few mentions of flight in the update. I'm pretty sure at this point it's going to primarily be an FPS game, so a worse CoD.

How long have they been working on this again? Did Chris Roberts make deals with multiple demons, devils and otherworldly beings to have an audience this dumb blind stupid idiotic slavishly devoted? I've seen less devotion from suicide cults.

My theory is they have restarted SQ404 several times over, which is based on several Agent leaks, as well as the atrocious Morrow Tour that looked like a bad PS3 game.

It also makes sense that they are redoing it in Unreal Engine.

Yeah but once the pipelines are in place…

I was watching one of their recent videos and the “River Tech” kid was talking about MS Flight simulator and how they couldn’t get to that level of terrain detail, and then Lando quickly cut in and reminded the audience that they were totally planning to have earth in the game eventually.

And I thought to myself when? 2050? 2060? And then I remembered it doesn’t really matter, this isn’s a video game project, it’s a sexy cocaine bear yacht funding/dream machine project, and even the mega fans don’t really want a finished game at this point.

Freelancer (Chris Roberts' previous space sim) is 20 years old today! posted:

Freelancer was developed by Roberts' Digital Anvil as an ambitious open-world space combat and trading simulation, and since its release under Microsoft in 2003 with some reductions to its original scope it gathered a large crowd of fans. While most of us are awaiting further milestones in the development of Star Citizen to realise the new generation of this type of space sim, I think it's interesting to have a foil of what it looked like 2 decades years ago.

To provide that foil, the still active Freelancer community is hosting an anniversary retrospective and play-together event this weekend, which is being live streamed today at 16:00 CET (when this post is 1.5 hours old) on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/avadragonfire

The event continues featuring the latest HD Edition mod for Vanilla tomorrow at 16:00 CET on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/dedarkstar

If you still own a copy of Freelancer, you can easily join in on the action as well! You may need a few fixes to allow you to connect to the Internet servers, but you have access to all resources for that on the Freelancer community discord server: https://discord.gg/freelancer-galactic-community-638984923591737355

Have you heard of Freelancer, or played it in the past? What are your memories of this game? What are things Freelancer did well that Star Citizen is still missing?

A Very Intellectual Simian posted:

Minor correction... CR sold the company to MS and he then 'resigned' and was immediately rehired as the 'creative consultant', in order to emphasise that he was no longer owning / running the company... but MS still wanted him to lead the development of the project.

MS did not 'fire' him to remove him from the project.

CR TOTALLY knew it was the right time to sell and definitely didn't get kicked out on his arse while MS tried to rebuild the game from the point where he started funneling funds to the Wing Commander movie.
