And it's not that I don't think they have no chemistry at all, but I find theirs to be more of the friendly rival kind. There's two other folks I believe fit Edgeworth better, but that's a conversation for a point long off from now.

I think it's entirely possible for people to be fanatically devoted to one another and argue like an old married couple without also wanting to have sex with each other. That said, Wrightworth is at least fun to milk for the unresolved sexual(?) tension, which is why it should stay unresolved. :P

I can see some tension from some kind of shared past, but any speculation past that point seems to be more founded in spoilers than what we've seen so far. Update should be ready soon.

Part 78: Episode 4, Day 1, Investigation: Police Diligence Music: Silence The park looks a bit stark in winter. No snow, either. Yeah. Gourd Lake is in the middle of this park. Questioning people, probably. Hey! Isn't that Detective Gumshoe over there? Well, pal!? Sound: Drama Pound Sound: Damage 2 S-sorry, sir... Nothing. Sound: Super Shock We need clues, on the double! B-but, sir... Police work at its finest, right there. It's clear, sir. He's the one who-- Shaddup! Sound: Super Shock I'll... I'll... I'll make you sorry if you do! Sound: Damage 2 So just... just, get outta my face, pal! Sound: Whack Y-yes, sir! Recruits... peh! ... Sound: Light Bulb Eek! Sound: Light Bulb Music: Dick Gumshoe - Detective Gumshoe, Pal Sound: Whack Dammit, Gumshoe, that was three episodes ago! Wright! Phoenix Wright! (Will he ever learn my name!?) Sound: Whack Sound: Whack Huh? Um, well, yes. I suppose. Sound: Objection That's a switch. Bring it! Sound: Whack He's on Team Edgeworth, obviously. Umm... Music: Silence Huh!? Sound: Stab 2 Oh? Y-you don't say... Music: Dick Gumshoe - Detective Gumshoe, Pal Geez, Maya, you made him sad! He looks like a kicked puppy. Let's leave him alone for a minute and snoop around. The sign says "Gourd Lake Nature Park." This place is full of families picnicking on the weekend. Not many picknickers come here for spiritual training, Maya. I feel winter's chill from the bare leaf trees today... *sigh* What is it about winter that turns people into poets? (Yes... my poetry has that effect on some people.) Those two are actually all there is to see here. The good stuff must be farther in. This thing has gotten more play this episode so far, let's keep riding it. That badge! Sound: Whack You gotta show that to someone who needs it! Sound: Objection Someone like... Edgeworth? We already tried that. Detective Gumshoe? Do you know what happened here? No... Head-in-the... huh? Never mind, I'll tell you. In that boat were two men. Sound: Weak Gunshot And... the shooter was Mr. Edgeworth? Well... Sound: Realization When the report came in, we raced to the lake. A witness? Our suspect pool now consists of the supposed witness and the cop who first arrived on the scene. Let's keep digging. You don't think Mr. Edgeworth is a... murderer, do you!? Sound: Whack Sound: Light Bulb Gumshoe founded the Edgeworth fan club, apparently. Sound: Light Bulb (I care!) ... Course I do! Sound: Whack But... the police are pretty sure he's the killer. The police seem to be overly reliant on witness testimony. Oh no! Sound: Realization Music: Silence Hard to imagine that no one's standing up to take his side. Well, at least you are, Detective. At least you are. Music: Dick Gumshoe - Detective Gumshoe, Pal I-is it true? Yeah... He's a bit of a celebrity. What's more... Sound: Realization No evidence and a single witness? We've dealt with a lot worse. (I suppose it would be if they have a witness.) Hey! Pal! Sound: Super Shock Remember the Steel Samurai case!? I wonder if that has anything to do with his current predicament. I... I know. I went to Edgeworth. I tried. He really doesn't want us to represent him. Especially not us, he said. What!? Sound: Damage 2 W-well, that doesn't make any sense, pal! Sound: Whack He kept saying, "Wright, Wright, Wright," over and over. ... Nick? Neither am I... I don't get it. quote:This entire conversation topic plays out differently if we haven't talked to Edgeworth yet. Specifically, we need to show Edgeworth our badge to offer to defend him (and get denied) in order to get the conversation we just saw. If we haven't shown our badge to Edgeworth, we get the following from Gumshoe on the defense request topic instead: Who was this witness? Er, sorry, pal. That's confidential. I'm sure they'll turn up at the trial tomorrow. Was there only that one witness? And, it was Christmas Eve after all. Still, we're being thorough. I wonder if the timing of this murder is going to be relevant. They're going out of their way to mention that it was on Christmas Eve a lot. What could that mean? That's why we're here today, checking things out. So far, we're coming up empty... What are you getting me for Christmas, Nick? Talk to Santa. That's all for Gumshoe... unless we've already talked to Edgeworth, that is. Once we've both presented our badge to Edgeworth and then exhausted all conversation topics with Gumshoe (in that order, to get the updated conversation with Gumshoe about defending Edgeworth), we get an additional scene. In fact, this update might be the first time presenting the badge has actually been required for a case! Music: Silence What? Find something!? Sound: Whack Um, no, sir. Not yet. A briefing? Right! I'm off! Oh... Sorry, pal. I guess you heard. I gotta go. Music: Dick Gumshoe - Detective Gumshoe, Pal Sure, the autopsy report is always good to have. Sorry... They haven't worked up the autopsy report yet. Actually... We can talk more there, pal! quote:If we ask Gumshoe about how to get in touch with him, we just skip the previous dialogue and go straight into the next scene instead. You're not coming back, Detective? Erm... Probably not, pal. Ah, right. Music: Silence Sweet! New location unlocked, and we can chat with Gumshoe whenever we want to now! Oh, hey! Detective Gumshoe! Sound: Light Bulb W-what!? Um, we'd like to take a look around in the park. Can we walk around? Sound: Light Bulb You know, Nick. Yeah. They don't have time to think about not giving you information... Lawyerly tricks #3! That extra scene got us two more locations to go investigate, so we've got two options on where to go next. Keep digging around in the park, or break off and chat with Gumshoe some more?

If Gourdy is large enough that people can stand on it when it surfaces, then Gourdy could be the real scene of the murder and the boat was a fakeout.

Part 79: Episode 4, Day 1, Investigation: Party Camera Well that was pretty clear. We're already here, might as well keep digging around at Gourd Lake. Sound: Realization Yup. I'm not sure it warrants a "wowsers," though. Hmm. Probably not. Sound: Light Bulb "Samurai Dogs"...? Uh, it doesn't look very open. Do we even have any money? I bet they're great! With a name like Samurai Dog, how could they not be? The kids are all into "The Pink Princess" now. I mean, like, y'know!? (Nope.) Wait, did that new show really get created, cast, shot, and aired all in the month or two since the last case? Seems kind of tacky and abandoned. Let's look around. Wow. Gourd Lake is really big. Yeah. Oh. Well, a long time ago, they used to grow gourds here. Whoa! No way! Sound: Light Bulb You know, like an hourglass shape? Well, it is shaped like a gourd, actually. But that's just a coincidence. Oh. Okay. I don't even know what to say to that one. The trashcan is empty. At least the place is well maintained. Either that, or no one ever goes here to generate any trash. Huh... I almost didn't see that signpost. Boat docks sound promising, if the murder really took place out on a boat. A lineup of plastic benches. I guess the idea is you buy a dog and eat it here. Except maybe Maya... if she had a Samurai Dog. Looks like there's something on one of these benches. ...And it goes "pop." Yeah, I know the ones. You see them a lot around New Year's. Let's take them. C'mon, admit it. You just want to pop them, right? Was it that obvious? I'm not sure why this choice is even here. Why would we not take them? I suppose it couldn't hurt. Huh? Where'd they go? Sound: Realization Into my pocket. Sound: Select Jingle Not what I would have expected for our first new piece of evidence. quote:Leaving them is an option, just not one that makes any sense. A hotdog stand. It's closed... The banner reads "Samurai Dogs"... Somebody needs to redecorate. Not going to stop for a vote here, let's keep looking around the park. Starting with the boats. Nick... what is this place? A boat rental shop. Closed for Christmas it seems. I guess a murder taking place on one of the boats won't be good for business, either. Guess we'll have to come back here on the second day of investigation. Really? Well, how about we go out on one when the trial is finished? Hey, good idea! You bet! Sound: Light Bulb Still no one to talk to, so all we can do is examine the scene again. A small boat rental shop. Doesn't look like anyone is around. They're probably closed because it's Christmas. I wouldn't expect the boats to get much use in winter in general, but I guess the lake isn't exactly frozen over. There are some boats floating at the dock. Was one of these boats used in the murder, I wonder? Nick? Huh? Thanks? I guess it'd be too much trouble to actually peek in the boats and look for pools of blood, huh? There's more forest off that way. I doubt I'd find any helpful clues in there. I'm sure it's completely impassable anyway, just like at the movie studio. Well the docks were a bust, I guess we'll just have to wander through the woods. Now that setup looks pretty suspicious. We slide over to see a camping site right next to a "No Camping" sign. Look... someone's camping! They've got guts, camping at the scene of a murder. Hey, hey, Nick! Do they even know there was a murder? Although, maybe this is the witness Gumshoe mentioned. Would a gunshot wake someone up in the middle of the night, who's been sleeping in their SUV? (That's true...) Good call, Maya. Let's go talk to them. This person isn't making themselves known, I guess we'll have to find them. The trees grow quite thick here. Further back, the trees fade into the shadow where the sunlight can't reach them. More impenetrable woods. This SUV has seen better days. It's dented all over. I can't believe anyone would drive their car down here. How did that SUV get there? I guess our camper isn't there, either. Hey, Nick! What, don't tell me you're hungry again? No, no. They're light, heat up quickly and evenly, easy to clean, don't rust... ... They didn't talk about that in any of the law books. Phoenix, don't act like you ever read any law books, I've seen your reactions to Mia's collection. (I'm not having this conversation...) Looks like our camper wandered off mid-picnic? Lots of stuff just lying around. Maybe all the wild animals are hibernating. There's food and some magazines on the sheet. It takes a pretty tough skin to camp in this cold. The sign says "No Camping." Funny place to pick to pitch your tent. ... I don't think they have signs like that. Oh... I like the idea of reverse psychology signs. Would a sign that said "No picking up litter!" make some rebellious individuals start cleaning up the park? The only item of interest on the other side of the campsite is this odd camera setup. This camera has a mic and some sort of attachment. It must take pictures when triggered by a noise. Sound: Light Bulb *cough* Sound: Realization ...Maya what are you doing. ... Maybe I'm not saying it loud enough. Sound: Damage 2 ... Huh. Sound: Guilty x 4 Will you stop that? Sound: Stab 2 Sound: Whack D-don't kick it! Maybe it isn't set to respond to voices? You know what, fine, let's do it. quote:If we didn't pick up the party poppers, the previous two lines (and all of the following ones) get replaced with a single hint instead: The party poppers...? Sound: Weak Gunshot Sound: Photo Snap x 11 ... Well. It responded. Oh hey, a camera aimed at the lake that automatically takes pictures whenever it hears a sound like a weak gunshot. Where else have we heard that sound effect before? Sound: Objection Sound: Whack

Part 80: Episode 4, Day 1, Investigation: Lotta Hart Music: Happy People Apparently the April May music is going to get re-used for other Eek! Sound: Stab 2 What in the Sam Hill...!? Sound: Whack Ah? Wha... huh? S-sorry! Sound: Damage 2 I-I'll pay you back! Sound: Whack Uh... well... What! Sound: Light Bulb Hey, don't blame us because your camera for some reason uses a whole roll of film all at once. Come to think of it, what exactly are you trying to take a picture of with that kind of setup? Maybe it's Gourdy, and it roars or something when it comes out of the water? Yeah, I know how y'all Yanks think! Sound: Whack Are there country redneck types in Japan? What did this conversation look like in Japanese? It's localized really well. Sound: Realization I... what. N-Nick, help! And who are you, now? Her chaperone? Sound: Whack Yeah, uh, no, rather, uh... we're sort of... friends? Sound: Whack Half of these dialogue screens advance without any prompting, like she keeps interrupting or talking over us. I can barely get a word in myself. (Oh boy...) (I guess we should pay her for the film...) Watch it! Sound: Whack Yes ma'am. Pretty sure we don't have any money, anyway. I'm really sorry! Well we certainly have another interesting character in front of us. Instead of talking to her, let's go poke at her camera again. This camera is rigged to respond to noise. Or a gunshot! Geez, just say it! Anyway, we'll start by introducing ourselves. Music: Silence I, er, this is my badge. Phoenix, you are the king of smooth. Umm... I'm a lawyer. Wh-what!? Sound: Light Bulb Phoenix hasn't read that book yet, so you're probably safe. Sound: Objection N-no, that's not it at all. Sound: Stab We're here investigating a murder that took place here, on the lake. Sound: Realization ... Sounds cool! Sound: Light Bulb Apparently if we don't present our badge, she won't talk to us? (Finally! Some cooperation!) (Come to think of it, where did Maya get to?) S-sorry... Sound: Realization Maya doesn't exactly strike me as a city slicker, either. I guess she's a different kind of country girl. Th-thanks. I think I'll be okay. Sound: Light Bulb Lotta Hart, her name's a pun because she is overflowing with... spirit. You're full of poo poo, meteor showers don't make noise so they wouldn't set off your camera. Mighty pleased ta meet ya! Music: Happy People We got a lot out of that last conversation, so let's turn around and show our badge to Ms. Lotta Hart again! So yer a lawyer, huh? Hah hah! *glare* Let's talk to Lotta some more. Oh yeah, when was that murder, anyway? It happened late in the night on Christmas Eve. That so? Christmas Eve? A man on a boat was shot... Did you see anything? A boat, ya say? I reckon I mighta seen one... Not sure though. Well, this one would have been at night. Around the time of the loud gunshot. For some reason we're now allowed to ask about the camera; we'll get there next. So, what is it you do, Lotta? Huh? Me? Sound: Light Bulb Hah hah. Y'all don't really want to know that, do ya? Wow! Neat! Uh... so I hear. So, when did you come up here? I'm going to call this sprite her lying face. I don't trust anything she says with that side-eye look. What are you photographing? D-didn't I tell y'all that already? Meteors! Yep, meteor showers! (Falling stars...?) Totally just meteors. I'm kind of surprised we get this camera topic for free; I would've expected to present the party poppers to talk about it, but those disappeared from our evidence list as soon as Maya used them. quote:If we don't show Lotta our badge first, we get stonewalled trying to talk to her on either initial topic, and can't see the camera topic at all. That's quite a camera you have there. Solingen isn't a real camera brand. However a camera manufacturer named Montanus started out of a city called Solingen in Germany, and made a bunch of cameras in the 1950s before giving up the business to Japanese competitors. Interesting reference, but... (Isn't that where they make knives...?) Phoenix rightly points out that Solingen is actually a company (from the city of the same name) that is famous for a different product. Umm... Huh? Device? And how does that help with photographing meteor showers again? It's programmed to pick up loud noises right now. A programmable camera! Neat! Beat me over the head with it, why don't you? Sound: Select Jingle Even if you don't have good adventure game habits, you probably turned right around and shoved this evidence back in Lotta's face upon reading that description, like I'm doing right now. Lotta? Yeah? Ayup. A pistol...? Sound: Realization I guess it would. Great cross, Phoenix! ... Hey! Sound: Light Bulb Huh? I see what yer sayin'... It would have been a photo taken late last night... I checked 'em once, don't remember if there was anything on 'em though. Lies! For some reason I'm doubting that we're going to get the right photo here. This game has made me paranoid. I'll go check that film. Y'all come back now, y'hear? Music: Silence Lotta disappears, and we pan around to remind everyone that there was a car over there. She went inside her SUV. Examining the SUV doesn't do anything. We need to hit some plot trigger to continue. I stop to check our new friend's profile on the way out of the park. I like the "claims to be" part. The game doesn't trust her either! Maya, what say you about this camera? Who was that with the camera...? Lotta something? I'd love to, but she doesn't seem to have it for us yet. We're left with one option - visiting Gumshoe!

It's frequently localized that way, at least, especially around the time this game was first translated. This series has an absolutely amazing localization.
