Kennel posted:Could be neat. That's been tried: https://store.steampowered.com/app/546430/Pathway/ A good attempt but I didn't dig it, but also I think tactical combat doesn't pair well with every type of setting. Its easier to add variety with magic/scifi that's basically magic or JA style hardcore gun stuff. If it's grounded but vague that's easy to be boring. If the tactical combat isn't crunchy enough to be interesting, then it just takes too much time compared to alternative combat styles and Lamplighters looks like its story focused.

I didn't think about... just avoiding them.

Man, I am sure getting thrown a lot of 30-50% sales on my "only play through old/untouched stuff" run. Where were these sales a week ago, huh, Steam? Spring (Sale) Cleaning - March 6th PREVIOUSLY NOT PLAYED - Phoning Home is a game that a kind and generous soul bought me as a part of one of the reciprocal gift giving threads, which is probably the only way I was going to try this thing out. It's a sort of... Action-Exploration game with crafting and puzzle elements? It starts off sort of rambling all over the place while you collect resources to build up your kit and advance the story. The game gets a little bit more focus later on, but also introduces a companion that you have to escort (read: babysit) for the rest of the game, increased necessity of navigating the idiosyncracies of the game's physics engine beyond jumping (which is present and somewhat annoying from the start), and mechanics that start pressuring you to get to the end of the game faster. Phoning Home can be a lovely experience, but it also makes you ask yourself if dealing with all of its annoyances is worth the effort. Jossar fucked around with this message at 02:30 on Mar 7, 2023 |

I'm not bad at video games you guys MYZ is all about scouting the perimeter one-shotting stragglers from stealth and then setting up alpha strikes on groups. And don't use silenced weapons for the stealth part, noise range is low so as long as you're somewhat far away and the target drops in one round you're good. The silenced weapons simply don't have enough damage to do that reliably. It's a bit rote but the world and atmosphere pulled me through.

i've been going through the steam demo list, like the entire one, and just alphabetically earmarking anything interesting and downloading what i can to the Deck (as I think I mentioned before, right-hand menu demo links don't show up on the Deck's store page). i'm through 0 to M. the list so far: 77p Eggwife, 8-Bit Adventures 2, A Rat's Life: The Cat Conspiracy, A Space for the Unbound, Absinthia (Knight Bewitched 3), Backpack Hero, Belle Boomerang, Betrayal at Club Low, Beyond Sunset, Bits & Bops, Butcher, Chants of Sennaar, Chester's Revenge, Chorvs, COGEN, Conscript, Corsair's Madness, Crystal Story: Dawn of Dusk, Cult of the Lamb, Dancin' Divas, Dandy Dungeon, Dead Horizon, Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum, Decline's Drops, Demons of Asteborg, Discolored 2, DoubleShake, DROP, Dynacat, Ekorella, Elementallis, Enchain, Fall of Porcupine, Fallen City Brawl, Find All: Magic, Froggo Swing 'N Grapple, Fur Quest, Garbanzo Quest, Gedda Cake, Gem Venture, Germinal, Grappin, Gravity Heroes, Greek Tragedy, Heart of the Woods, Heartbound, Hellscreen, Hellslinger, Hero.EXE, Humanless, illWill, Infinitevania, Interwoven, Iridium, Junkienator, Justice Sucks, Justice.exe, Kapia, Knight of Exile, Ladybug Quest, Lock & Key: A Magical Girl Mystery, Looking for Aliens, Madcap Mosaic, Magenta Horizon, Mala Petaka, Mana Circle, Mariposa & the Galaxy Man, Mazeman, Mechanic 8230, Meg's Monster, Memoria (not the Daedalic game), Mindhack, Mirror Layers, Mirrored Soul, Monomyth, Mothmen 1966, Mr. Sleepy Man, Murica, My Familiar, Pixel Noir these I will have to download later through Desktop mode because of what I mentioned above: Burrowburrow, Beyond the Edge of Owlsgard, Beep's Escape, Card Shark, Cuboid Keeper, Devil Engine, Dormiveglia, Everblade, Fobia, Freedom Planet 2, Funk Unplugged, Ganryu 2, Golftopia, Grimfield Mystery, Hamsterdam, Hancho, Hannah, Infinos Gaiden, Jet Kave, Kraino Reanimated, Life on Mars, Madness: Project Nexus, Marco & the Galaxy Dragon, Max: the Curse of Brotherhood, Mayhem in Single Valley, Mechblaze, Million to One Hero, Mira's Tale, MURI while i'd like to go through the entire alphabet before actually playing any of them, there's no way the Deck will have enough space unless I just hold off on some of them... either way, it's entirely possible to create your own Next Fest if you wanted to, the amount of demos on Steam outside of festivals is insane. the sadder thing is how many demos I passed on because I'd look to see how development is going and the game was abandoned (and I don't even mean in Early Access, they didn't even get to that point)

Okay, yeah, that makes sense. I just assumed those of us who've suffered Cyanide's games for this long were conditioned to accept misery. I wouldn't recommend BB3 to anyone, but I have fun with it. I read somewhere it was the 14th worst rated game on Steam. That has to be worse than even Cyberpunk 2077 did, surely. Attack on Princess fucked around with this message at 23:17 on Mar 7, 2023 |

I really enjoyed Elex…I posted a long while back that the main reason I didn’t bounce off early is because I was warned way in advance that you are absolutely poo poo at everything starting out. Like, worst early-game experience ever poo poo. But once you can actually kill one thing at a time you start being able to end doing ridiculous Eurojank combat and it’s one of my favorites. I’m glad I was warned, though. The jet pack is baller as hell, too 😬

The narrator is constant and atrocious, the systems are on the scale of half-baked to completely abandoned and the story doesn't reach what little potential it was aiming for. It's a cool premise and a beautiful world let down in every single fashion. I was really hoping it would let me enjoy something like "The hosed up adventures of hideous monster man" after seeing the opening and character creation but it was not to be.

Such is the nature of my brain that I can only be fanatically obsessed with a single individual game for months on end or can't commit to a bit for more than a week. The closest thing I'm giving to a retrospective is that like NextFest I'm overall glad that I went back through everything because there were a couple of good games to be salvaged, but there is the sense that I did have to wade through a lot of stuff that I'm pretty much committed to putting down for good in order to get there. EDIT: Fiiiine, I'll do a low effort ranking too, but this is entirely about whether I plan on playing the games in question again, not about how good they are. DEFINITELY BUYING/STILL PLAYING: Terra Nil, Meltdown PROBABLY BUY ON A DECENT SALE/KEEPING INSTALLED: Nova Drift, Warm Snow, Night of the Full Moon MIGHT BUY ON A REALLY GOOD SALE/MIGHT PLAY AGAIN IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS: Sailing Era, HOARD, Empires of the Undergrowth, Black Ice WON'T PLAY: Hexarchy, Waves, Erra: Exordium, Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron - Flyboyz Edition, Chorus, Seven: The Days Long Gone, Rollers of the Ream 2: Reunion, FIVE: Champions of Canaan, Torchlight II, Book of Demons, Grim Dawn, Darkest Dungeon, Phoning Home Now somebody tell me if Per Aspera is good enough to justify buying it at 50% off.
