Hop - a limited slip diff helps that. Wheel
Hop is when the whole car kind of shudders or bucks up and down on the drive wheels when doing a hard launch. Torque steer is just when a front wheel drive with an open diff car pulls to one side when accelerating hard due to only one wheel getting the majority of the power sent to it.

I think most (all?) the N-Line models have been panned for bad torque steer due to open diffs. I know my Sonata is bad about it but I don't usually punch it out of a dig into a turn so I don't really notice at all that much.

I'd been referring to it as torque steer when talking to people IRL but wasn't sure about the wording - thanks for the clarification. It's not that bad and I mostly notice it when making a sharp right turn at low speed and then applying aggressive acceleration. Which is not exactly something I do a lot. Seeing the post I was replying to just made me wonder if there was potentially some way to reduce it.

The powerflex insert made my car with the same drivetrain sharper and nicer, I think you’ll like it. Get the yellow one not a stiffer one.

I assume they did, but seeing the grease pencil in the windshield makes me wonder, but check the oil. Also the oil filters on these are the same as a late model Civic that you can just grab at your local auto parts store or order OFFICIAL HONDA ones on various places on the internet. Likewise, if you need parts of specific types get them here:
https://partsouq.com/
Like perhaps you'd like to get the Honda 'H' logo center caps that are supposed to be in those wheels!
Direct from Japan parts far cheaper than any middleman can get them here in the USA and shipped very quickly via FedEx.

I myself also bought another import because I can't help myself, but to be far it has ~26,000 (!) total miles (~42k km) on it and will simply replace the almost-identical Prado we currently have. Just be a much nicer example. Gosh I love these Prados so much.

They “serviced” it at the dealer; oil change, new tires, suspension and brake checks. The dealer gave us an extra oil filter with it. We will give it a nice looking-at and cleaning tomorrow in the light and relative warmth of the day.

We are going to test fit a set of 13” Del Sol wheels that we have laying around and see how they look and feel. These are 8-ply tires and they definitely ride a little roughly with no weight in the bed. I’m not planning on loading it to the gills so a lighter tire will be OK, especially with the weight of the vehicle being so low.

The Big Jesus posted:

Found a semi local dealer that sells them with titles even! They said they normally order 5-6 per year and this year a miscommunication with the broker resulted in 24 kei trucks arriving.

We drove it about 75 miles today back from the dealer to my wife’s aunt’s house, to Walmart, and home. Aside from a little roughness at 80-85kph and the occasional catalyst light randomly flickering/staying on/going off it was perfect. Temp was rock steady and the trans/clutch/brakes felt great.

We test drove a ‘91 Mitsu Minicab back-to-back with this Acty and there was no comparison. The Mitsubishi was so agricultural feeling as to be uncomfortable. The extra 10hp and fifth gear of the Acty was also extremely nice.

Late on this, but I absolutely love that he chose to pass on an element because he was intimidated at the thought of taking the intake manifold off and unclipping a wiring loom off to get the the starter. It's exactly the kind of thing I'd've done when young as well. Ask me about the 2.3 in my old 200k ranger that had 5 brand new spark plugs and 3 that were probably original.

I mean, it was a bit of a fiddle gently caress to get to the starter on my accord, but elements have so much more room to work.

He has so much to learn, please keep us updated. :allears:

I bet it's an absolute hoot to drive, but man I dislike the direction BMW decided to go in regarding their design choices, particularly the kidney grills. The rear bumper seems like it's jutting out too compared to previous years. It's odd because I was just commenting to my brother the other day (who has a '08 135i) that I liked the style/proportions of a recent M2 that we walked past better than his car.

Not posting my ride but here's a pointless mini-review/comparison of two non competing cars. We just picked up a 21 Ridgeline RTL to replace a '19 CX5 Signature (turbo). Not really the same class but the CX5 was our "practical" vehicle but turns out it isn't that practical. A few times we ended up not being able to fit everything we needed in the hatch along with rear passengers. The other thing was we need to haul tree branches, construction material, or generally dirty poo poo and the CX5 interior was too nice to muck up - putting blankets and stuff down never protects everything 100% (also my house is not suited for trailer storage). Lastly part of the reason I got the CX5 is because it was supposed to be fun, and well, it's not. I think I bought into reviews of it too much but after owning it a couple of years I'm just not going to find a CUV entertaining. So I'm gonna get a proper fun car later. But anyways.

Performance and drivetrain: the Mazda is clearly faster with the turbo, it's a quick little thing. The I4 has no character, but it beats a gutless vanilla CUV motor. The Honda V6 just has a pleasant sound to it more suited to cruising around. It needs to rev out a bit to move the truck where the Mazda is just gobs of torque and no top end. Neither transmission is amazing - Mazda with a 6 speed torque converter and Honda with a ZF 9 speed. Edge here to the Mazda since the Honda just shifts too often. Both can be manually shifted. Worst thing I found on the Mazda in auto was braking into slow turns and accelerating out, the trans always lagged in downshifting on the exit and gave noticeable hesitation. Oddly enough these 2 cars get almost identical MPG.

Ride quality and NVH: was really surprised by the Ridgeline here. It's WAY smoother and quieter than the CX5. The Honda drives like an appliance (credit to the unibody) but it's just super refined and smooth. Substantially quieter at highway speed. So far I haven't noticed any particular wind noise thresholds. The CX5 is quiet enough for me but the Ridgeline is like a tomb. CX5 had a distinct wind noise increase at the A pillars past 70 mph. Now all this to say that the Mazda isn't harsh at all, the Honda is just softer. Not really getting into handling, obviously the CX5 is in a different league but I don't find cornering on stilts to be fun in either case.

Interior: Easy, the Mazda is nicer overall. CX5 has really good seats. The Ridgeline is obviously roomier cause it's a big honkin thing. The leather is decent and the seat is okay, but the Mazda feels a level up and has a nicer design, where the Honda is very appliance-ey. Both have physical HVAC, Mazda's is more intuitive. Cargo wise, I mean the pickup has more ultimate space but the CX5 has more "trunk" room in the hatch. The Ridgeline has a locking trunk under the bed which is great to have, although it's too small for really obnoxious bulky stuff like a stroller. The Honda's rear seats flip up 60/40 which is nice for stowing stuff with one rear passenger.

Equipment and tech: Mazda the clear winner here. A bit unfair since it's a top trim Signature vs the RTL being the mid level. The Ridgeline audio is terrible, like abysmally, unforgivably bad. The higher RTL-E trim has a better system but it sounds worse than my mom's 09 Corolla LE. For how quiet the cabin is it's really noticeable. The Mazda has a Bose that sounds quite good, no notes. They both have comparable active systems. ACC - Mazda works down to a stop and back moving, Honda only above a certain speed. The Mazda display for it is way better, no contest. Mazda's blind spot warning is more useful, it fires with a car maybe half a length back where the honda waits til a car is basically on top of you. Annoying thing with the Mazda is if you're stationary at a light with your signal on, the system continues to trigger/beep with a car next to you. Mazda lane keep works a little better and is integrated into the display. The Honda dash display and infotainment are overall more primitive. Mazda has 360 camera - it's potato quality, but it works. This feature is really spoiling and it sucks to go back to something without it.

Conclusion: Like I said these vehicles have different purposes. The Mazda is great for what it is but overall practicality was just too limited. If I were to go back in that market though, I would easily pick the Mazda over a CRV after seeing the difference in interior design and technology implementation (and the turbo). The Honda for its class is delightfully practical and smooth - this is what set it apart for us over a Maverick or Tacoma. It also doesn't look loving obnoxious. And the wife likes it.
