The spiderball sections towards the Prime endgame are so good. The morph ball mechanics and physics in general are good enough for their own dedicated game.

Completed 100% item & scan run this weekend. It's wild how well this game holds up after 20 years, it feels so modern even today. The only thing that hasn't quite aged well is the lack of fast travel.

Hope 2 & 3 get the same treatment, especially 2. Feel like people would appreciate what 2 was going for much more today compared to 2004. Back in the day I barely used the Light & Dark beams because I didn't want to waste ammo.

Really? I think the flaws of MP2 are self-evident. I mean, it's not a bad game but I do think it's the weakest of the series.

People playing MP2 today would behave the same here. Yes the ammo system isn't really a problem, but it's also superfluous too since there's already a benefit to switching beam types aside from obtaining ammo.

MP3 is probably the one that would most benefit from a remake just to dump the motion controls, since those are passé now. Or just play PrimeHack.

3's motion controls never really bothered me, but the giant slogs through the sky station world which should be fun, and is, once, did. Also the awful, AWFUL first big boss. I absolutely think MP3 has enough flaws to solidly put it in the bottom.

In fact, I like 2 so much that I squarely put it at the top! Higher highs and lower lows. Like with Dark Souls 2 :haw:

Honestly I think Prime 2 is the strongest of the series. I still like Prime 1 more, mostly due to the music and atmosphere, but Prime 2 improved on it in most ways imo.

No matter how one loves, there are always different aims. Love can take a great many forms, whatever the era.
I used the Light and Dark beams whenever I wanted, because I knew the game gives you ammo pickups so that you can keep using them.

Aren't you a smart one

I didn't use them much in my first playthrough - I really feel in love with the Super Missile there - but once I realized that you'll get plenty of ammo with the box-destroying technique, the game just got even better! Hell, I've started using Annihilator and turns out it's actually much better than I gave it credit for. On my first playthrough, I was very disappointed however that it simply is not nearly as good of a moment as getting the Plasma Beam is.

My problem with the annihilator is that its two main features are at odds with each other. Being able to home in on enemies and also draw enemies into a charged crystal are both great. But often I found myself wanting to charge a crystal with it and instead it would home in on an adjacent enemy and not the crystal I was actually aiming at.

I beat Prime on GameCube, and not once do I remember using the flame thrower. I thought they just added in a new weapon or something...

One has to keep in mind regarding this clip that just using a charged Plasma shot instantly kills the pirates, so Flamethrower is markedly slower at killing them as well as having much less range.

Compare it also to the Wavebuster which is p good at killing Wave Beam pirates, which often come in pairs, locking one down as you dodge the other, then jumping to the second immediately; Flamethrower doesn't lock down poo poo when facing Plasma Beam pirates, and they take markedly longer to die using it than if you just fired three charged shots.

Welp I got the thermal vision, fought my way to the top of the room, went through the door and the two sentry drones promptly kicked my rear end.

Now I get to fight my way though half of the complex all over again, get the thermal vision again, and try not to die.

Any tips for dealing with those sentry drones? I could barely see poo poo because they kept scrambling my vision.

You can super missile one from outside the room, then prepare a second one for the other while you walk into the room.

Wave beam can stun them right back. I think 2 charged shots kills one? Also, don’t stop dodging against those drat things. Lock on, hop around as best you can in that narrow room*, and give them a shock.

Doesn’t matter how much they miss you by, as long as they actually miss.

*these are the ones in the narrow room near the top of the visor room, right? I remember being pissed at some drones in that general area.

I was spamming the wave beam like crazy and I thought I was doing charged shots but maybe I was missing, I’ll try and hit them with some super missiles.

It felt silly to fight a few big scary Metroids and clown them with super missiles, only to get dunked on in the very next room by a pair of sentry bots.

Dread difficulty is a slog. The homing missile boss kicked my poo poo in for two days. It's also really hard to see the smaller enemies in handheld mode so sometimes Im dying for seemingly no reason and have to do a huge platforming section multiple times. I don't think I'm going to bother going for 100 percent, getting around the environment is more difficult than the boss fights sometimes.

Nah, that's mostly with just the Chozo Robos. Escue was intentionally designed to eat poo poo from the Screw Attack.

Metroid Prime travel update

Just got the spider ball after killing the rock monster, got the ice beam, on my way back to Phendrana to investigate a gravity anomaly.

I also grabbed a Chozo artifact in the husk of the tendril plant boss I fought earlier in the Sun chamber. I know where three other Chozo artifacts are but haven’t worked out how to get them yet, I must not have the tools yet.

Water levels suck. Ice levels suck. But Metroid Prime 1 followed the lead of Secret of Mana's Ice Country and Mario 64's Jolly Roger Bay and gave them two of the best loving tracks in gaming history and now those areas are what I look forward to most on replays.

I'm really excited to play the remake this fall.

Wave Troopers can be easily stun-locked with charged wave beam, and Power Troopers die to one Super Missile.

You also don't need to fully charge the wave beam to stunlock the Wave Troopers, as soon as you hear the noise of it starting to charge you can fire and get them in a stun state.

Fusion is out on the NSO emulator. Samus being super bulky is going to take some getting used to.

Also lol at the intro being like "The X parasite required surgery to remove, drastically altering my appearance!" But then she's still just regular supermodel Samus.
