The DPRK had a moral obligation to invade the RoK and destroy Rhee's government if for no other reason than to stop the killings. Alas the great satan of the earth, America, intervened. Look he had to ensure the US/UN election to bring democracy to all of Korea had the right result. Couldn't risk people voting for socialism, it would make America's colonial administration harder to justify.

All they have left are convicts with shovels and the contents of Putin's dirty diaper, because he poops in them and that is very funny to me.

They are absurdly cheap compared to anything in NATO and can carry some missiles. $20k a pop? That's nothing. It's the sort of military engineering US MIC is incapable of producing because their isn't enough grift. Shooting it down with a Javelin missile costs over $200k. And then somehow Ukraine lost a fighter jet to one of these drones.

Just a bit of trivia about the Brits/MIC worth pointing out while going through some work material. British tank guns are designed specifically for HESH. No HESH projectiles are being produced. Why? It's not that the British Army ruled it obsolete, in fact it remains a central part of their tactics, and they've had to carefully shepherd the stockpile they have left. Clearly they didn't want to get rid of it. Well, it wasn't their choice. Imagine a tank with a cannon that can't fire the rounds it was designed for. Sounds like a loving joke, right? No, this is the reality for British tanks and the L31 HESH round, including the Challenger 2s being gifted to our friends in Ukraine. The root cause of this issue goes beyond a supply chain screwup, spall liners - in theory only by the way - making HESH obsolete, newer Russian composite armour arrays, perhaps a plant retooling. Nope, the reason the shells aren't being made anymore shouldn't surprise anyone ITT - it's emblematic of the devastating effects of neoliberalism and capitalism on the ability of the state to defend itself. For centuries, the production of ordnance was a key component of the state's ability to assert its authority and defend its interests. The emergence of cannon was a crucial factor in the end of feudalism, it marked the first time in history that a central state was able to overcome the defensive capacity of castles controlled by feudal lords. Prior to the advent of cannon, feudal lords could (and did) rebel and hole up in their castles, and their defensive fortifications made them virtually impregnable to attack. In the Holy Roman Empire, feudal lords were able to wage private wars, Fehde, because of the defensive ability of their castles given the military technology of the time. These private wars were outside of the public wars in which the Emperor or Prince took part, Krieg, and defied the Landfriede. The castles of the German nobility were built on impregnable (now picturesque) mountain crags or in other God forsaken (now scenic) places, making them difficult to capture by conventional means. As a result, the feudal lords were able to use their castles as a base of operations to raid neighbouring territories, extort money and goods from local merchants, terrorize the peasantry, and generally pursue their own private interests. The Holy Roman Empire was unable to prevent or even contain these private wars, which undermined the authority of the central government and threatened the stability of the entire empire. However, the production of cannon changed this dynamic completely. Cannon had the ability to breach the thick walls of castles and other fortifications, finally making them vulnerable to attack. This gave the central state the ability to launch successful offensives against feudal lords, tilting the balance of power in favour of the state, the people, the nation. The production of cannon-proof fortifications like Vauban's required resources that could only be harnessed by a state. The construction of these increasingly sophisticated, scientific, and expensive fortifications was quite simply beyond the reach of private actors. As a result, durable fortifications could only be controlled by the state, and in a stroke the protection of the people could only be done through the state. No lord could protect them, only the Crown could. There is a reason that cannon were known as the "Ultima Ratio Regum", and the British monarch's Cypher, as you know, is still borne on each gun to symbolize the state's control over this vital capacity. But in the 21st century, private interests have taken over, and the state has been disarmed in pursuit of profit. HESH (High-Explosive Squash Head) is type of tank ammunition that specifically excels at destroying fortifications. HESH is unique among NATO projectiles in that it relies on a different principle than most anti-tank munitions. While other tank rounds such as APFDS (Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot) and HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank) are designed to penetrate armor, HESH is designed to create a shockwave that spreads out over a wide area and crushes the target. It requires a rifled gun, which we will return to shortly. HESH is highly effective against a variety of structures and fieldworks, including timber and earth fieldworks, sandbag, log, concrete and steel bunkers, and buildings of all types made from various materials such as masonry, timber, and concrete. Its ability to reduce fortifications makes it an ideal tool for military forces looking to take down enemy defenses. It is, in a way, the continuation of those earliest cannon. It shakes walls and brings low the state's enemies that hide behind them. The L31 HESH round, specifically designed for British tanks using rifled guns, and British tanks were specifically designed with rifled guns to use it, was a munition of the highest national interest. How did we get to a place now where the British Army must go without it? Doesn't that seem strange to you? Think about it. We're not just talking about tactics and doctrine here, British tanks were specifically designed to use this munition, now they can't, even though they want to. The round way made by Royal Ordnance, now it is, or rather is not, made by BAE. See, the privatization of Royal Ordnance, which represented hundreds of years of accumulated capital and was one of the earliest state properties, was a betrayal not just to the people and taxpayers, but of the nation itself. We've talked about the SA80 before and how British soldiers died because their government gave them a lovely rifle, and that was entirely the result of privatization. Privatization of design, testing, MIC involvement in competitions, procurement, and the total dissolution of state production in favour of private goddamn interests. It got soldiers killed, ir produced a bad rifle. Now it's not producing a good shell. What the gently caress? Well, when they turned over the keys to BAE, they turned over the ability to produce HESH, and since it fell into the control of private interests, it is no longer manufactured in the UK or anywhere else. BAE Systems, which inherited this infrastructure built at public expense, found it unprofitable to continue production. See, only one country used HESH. Well, small matter that it was their own goddamn country, it's barely a blip on the international arms market, and so the logic of our technocratic wizards at the End of History dictated that this inefficiency must be done away with. This is a prime example of how neoliberal capitalism has compromised the state. Private interests have replaced national interests, and the needs of the British military mean nothing compared to the international arms trade. Profit has rotted every element of the state, and the people and the nation pay the ultimate price. The loss of the L31 HESH round is just one example of how western neoliberal states are not able, or not willing, to harness the forces truly needed to wage war. They, pardon the pun, loving gave away the keys to the castle. It's not just about ammunition - it's about the state's ability to defend itself and advance its interests. The absurdity of a tank with a cannon that can't fire the rounds it was designed for is due entirely to the shortsightedness and greed of neoliberal capitalism. Anyway, good luck to the Ukrainians with those loving Challengers.
