I love that they'll just race anything.

I'm gathering from the choo-choo noises that this is the Kei version?

edit: yup. Comments claim that it's using a turbo Cappuccino engine.

Gurgel was still huge in Brasil when I was growing up. Every little rural town was awash with them and I miss seeing them now that I don’t go back home as often.

I was talking to a guy who lived in the US Virgin Islands when the Gurgel came up. I guess someone imported a whole bunch of them to be rented out to vacationers and locals who only need a car for short periods. According to him they were well liked. Cheap, tough, and easy to repair.

Memories!

When I was 14, my girlfriend's mom had that truck. It had sat in the front yard for a few years and got painted up by our local middle school's art class. Peace signs, flowers, vines, good vibes slogans.

At some point our little Sentra was in the shop, so GF's mom let my mom drive it for a couple weeks.
"Death truck". No brakes, no power, spotty electrics, weak clutch, and a brick for an e-brake. She started right up after a jump though, and worked for as long as we needed her!

Riding in the thing was a trip. Happy hand waves and one foot out the door.

Everyone knows old Hiluxes are great vehicles. You don't need to watch Top Gear hosts circle jerking, even Toyota knows whats up.

This is the current ad for Hilux on rotation in Australia, even ghost dad b-lines for the old one:

Awesome.

Guy down here built a K12 into a time attack car, I can't find a pic of the engine bay in its current form, it started with a FWD VQ35DE setup mounted in the rear, but has progressed to a longitudinally mounted VQ35DE twin turbo, sequential gearbox and AWD with custom 'reversing' transfer case - because the engine is facing the wrong way, engine to the rear, gearbox and TC in the middle. Around 800hp. Built in his single garage.

Rampside Corvairs are awesome. Mid engine conversions are awesome too, even when they're not done..

Step vans are awesome. Creamsicle paint is awesome. Ice cream is awesome. Old work trucks being used for work is awesome.

Huge blowers are awesome.

Tube frames are awesome. Mid engine conversions are awesome again.

Sharpie art is awesome.

Panel Suburbans are awesome.

Trucks with THREE ENTIRE FEET chopped out of them while still maintaining proportions and lines are awesome.

This other step van is awesome.

Did not expect the engine of choice on the minitruck.

Not sure of the engine of choice on the Corvair rampside. A big coolness factor to me on that truck is the rampside utility, so filling it with an engine - a V6 of all things - is kinda meh. Stuck a Subie 3.6L flat six back there in the original location!
