i'd be happy with no recaps at all but announcers talking about stuff that happened a little bit during a match that isn't very important. not going on diatribes and ignoring the match but saying "how about that blibbabababbabbababab" and the other guy saying "yeah, asdgfasdgagdsg" and then getting back to the match. real words however. but i also know that some people hate when the attention is off of in-ring action. and i respect that. it's why i'm going to let them do what someone else wants.

This seems to be branching off into two versions of "spend more time reacting/recapping". WWE does recaps/previews over and over and over. Ricky Starks is going to talk. Ricky Starks is talking! Ricky Starks got attacked by Juice Robinson. Juice Robinson just attacked Ricky Starks! Ricky Starks was attacked by Juice Robinson earlier tonight. Juice Robinson came back earlier tonight! Folks, remember when Ricky Starks was talking earlier last night? He was attacked by Juice Robinson! In kayfabe, the commentators probably don't have a lot of thoughts about this beyond "yeah someone is back and they attacked another wrestler, probably going to lead to an issue!" which is you know, something that happens every week. Commentators fixating on it and reiterating it a dozen times does not really add anything to the story, just play out the angle and maybe reference "Juice Robinson is back and will be wrestling next week, what will Ricky think of that?" in Excalibur's rundown. The Bryan Danielson thing feels different because it's (a very good and stands-on-its-own) pretape promo where someone who main evented their last PPV tearfully implies that he might be retiring, leaving AEW, taking an extended break, or a combination of two of those things. In kayfabe, this is pretty momentous news. Is Danielson really retiring? Will he ever be back? Did MJF end someone's career, or did Bryan end his own career pushing for punishing stipulations? Is Hangman (or Mox) headed down the same path with their forever war? Do the BCC even notice or care about what happened to Danielson? I have not gone back to watch and maybe they did make some reference to it in the next match (ft. Moxley and Claudio) but selling this particular angle as something serious that could change the future course of AEW would have made dramatic/kayfabe sense. As it is, sort of brushing by it with "wow, lotta emotion there" makes it obvious that Danielson is just taking a little time off and will probably be back in time to set up something for Double or Nothing. That doesn't mean it ruined the show or ruined the promo or etc. but it's also a different issue than "don't explain anything" vs. "repeat everything as if the audience is a baby", but like that it's also a matter of taste.

Just a wee 2-3 minutes each week recapping things. Just for emphasis and pacing. I'm no saying go the full WCW "Who cares what's happening in the ring we've gotta talk about Hulk Hogan" way of doing things but a wee recap here and there to give emotional weight to storylines.

I get this attitude tbh. I'll avoid watching/reading/playing anything long and brilliant that's unfamiliar and instead do the shorter, blander thing repeatedly because it's familiar and needs less investment. Not saying its a good attitude but it's the one that got me into pro wrestling in the first place.

I know I will have x "good chemicals" with an episode of some YouTube thing, while a movie could range from 0 to multiple times x, for two three times the time, nah, youtube it is. Like you say its not a great attitude, but it can be managed. For example I know MJF and Bryan were putting on a banger, so I knew it would be more enjoyable than an hour of youtube for sure. I don't think I'd have watched a 1hr Ironman between Hobbs and Adam Cole with the same ease, regardless of actual quality in the end. Reviews help too. I was even more excited to watch the match when I heard people were into it, same with the Omega/Okada matches. It doesn't guarantee my fun, but it does give more evidence to support it
