It sucks that the fantastic day time levels of Unleashed are stapled to the mediocre - bad werehog levels, the game is such a joy to play half the time.

I thought the hedgewolf parts were better than the hedgehog parts but I also think 3D Sonic games were unplayable until Frontiers, a good video game. The best part of Sonic Unleashed was that Fry's sold it for $35 on launch day.

Opinion has come around a little on the werehog stuff, especially now you can mod the most annoying parts out, but it was never actually liked and still isn't. The point of it is just to make the game last longer with denser, smaller levels that you go through at a normal pace, and it does do that.

That too. The problem with Sonic games is that Sonic just goes too fast. You can't make an entire game out of Rooftop Runs, blowing through multiple kilometers of exquisitely beautiful scenery in under five minutes. You'd never make your money back. Every 3D Sonic game is like 80% compensating for having to be about Sonic.

The did well to emulate it as a single player game. I'm guessing the franchise hasn't exactly been dormant but It might be interesting to see how it treats contemporary MMOs. Reading the comments on that tweet I also really hope it doesn't go the gacha route.
