They might be giants released their latest album in a bunch of obsolete formats including a limited edition signed 8-track, I pre-ordered one and after nearly a year it turned out that the one guy they found who had the equipment to make them got overwhelmed with the project so I got a refund instead (Not that I had any way to play it or ever even seen an 8-track player in my life, but it looked cool)

gently caress yeah. Interstellar Overdrive is great. Also great for making white suburban dads shout at you to turn it down. Atom Heart Mother and all before it is much more "weird arts teacher who helps students occupy the university building"-music, than dad rock. At the very least i've never heard my dad play any of it, while he had all of the later albums. Live renditions of Atom Heart Mother with the brass ensemble are hit or miss. Sometimes you can hear how the brass ensemble is trying to really play their loudest, which is not necessarily 'pretty' to listen to but definitely adds charm to it. I guess with the noise of the band on stage, they were barely able to hear themselves... I used to have loads of bootleg recordings, downloaded from the PFCO forums hub - itself being obsolete, though not failed. One of my favorites is titled 'Atom Heart Mother on the Road' I think barely 10% of what was easily accessible back then can be found on youtube. Agreed that obscured by clouds is way underrated. It's worth looking up some bootleg recordings from the obscured by clouds era. They played very little of it, but it's also interesting to hear the beginnings of dark side of the moon's songs pop up here and there before they were all polished up. Still love Dark Side though. I used to poo poo post at the Neptune PF boards too (with my two internet friends). It was fun, loving with the owner there. He seemed like a pretty good dude though, and the boards seemed well run compared to some of the other places around. He had a good sense of humour about my poo poo posting for the most part. My favorite bit of theirs was "oh yes, there was a big world tour scheduled...and then 9/11 happened". I preferred to hang around alt.music.pink-floyd on usenet, which was a fun cesspool for 4 or 5 years. I seem to recall reading in the PF encyclopedia that that was one of those songs that never got performed live by them. It was a live set staple for awhile in 1970-72, albeit in reduced 4-piece form. They did a few performances with choir and orchestra, but they were few and far between. The 'An Hour With Pink Floyd' special from KQED (widely bootlegged, released legitimately on the ludicrously overpriced low-quality 'Early Years' box set) featured the 4-piece version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J57_TjXq3_c One of the full-out performances was for John Peel's show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zcsd-6KlcgQ Ron Geesin performed it with choir and orchestra a few times some years back, with Gilmour helping on guitar and Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets (best goddamn setlists for admirers of old weird PF, they only play pre-Dark Side material) is covering it on their 2022/2023 tour.

The skewed clock reminds me of this clock: My aunt had it, but I'm not sure where or when she got it, besides before 2011 which is the earliest I remember it. It might have been my late uncle's which would make it 2002 or earlier. It just started working out of the blue in 2021 after having it for two years or so.

I also vaguely remember some drama but i was too young to realize it and pay enough attention to it. What was it about? I got two backup dvds sitting around from that time, i wonder if there are any chatlogs on there. Let me find an optical drive and figure it out... In interviews, Pink Floyd members stated multiple times they really disliked playing the Atom Heart Mother suite live with an orchestra, because they could not get enough rehearsing time in, and they would get a different orchestra for each performance because you can't haul a whole orchestra around the world on tour. Meaning you gotta go through the motions of instructing the orchestra time and time again. Despite that, i do think they're among the best live performances ever. LimaBiker posted:Yeah, i think so. I've never used the IRC chat unless that was the integrated chat with the file sharing hub software. It was around 2005-2006 that was active there. Don't know if it's this particular drama, but Sandy and Joe, the proprietors, claimed to be best buds with Gilmour who would fly directly from the UK to their town in bumfuck Florida to visit. "Gilmour" would join the IRC channel and clearly had no idea what he was talking about (for instance when asked some pretty specific musical questions would just answer that he played what felt right for the situation; when the actual Gilmour was asked elsewhere he would answer in detail). Part of the reason "Gilmour" was there was to confirm that Joe and Sandy had solved the Publius Enigma: the solution was apparently "evangelical christianity is the answer". They kept this up even as the actual Gilmour was being openly agnostic/atheist (and even as the dude had an entire song about it). They would promise open access to the band if people just believed in them when their next tour happened (which was always just about to be announced, any day now). It was intensely stupid and mocking them was a favorite activity on the newsgroups.

I found this on the net, bunch of small DOS programs that are useful for the home shop. I had an interest in the plug.zip program since you can use a combo of three plug gages to check a hole that's larger than any of your existing gages and this program calculates what kind of sizes you need. But it's museum code and it's not complete, references headers like conio.h, dos.h and something called graph.h which is totally unknown as well as a custom library mwk.lib that's not included. https://www.myvirtualnetwork.com/mklotz/#shop I really enjoy old museum stuff like this and I had a lot of fun trying to get plug.c to compile in a modern linux environment. Which it did, a bit klutzy but the math came out identical to the exe version I ran in dosbox.

People should be aware of just how much obsolete non-gaming software is run on Dosbox or other emulators, both to appreciate the volunteer work that makes it possible and to be weary of companies that overly depend on obsolete software. I'm sure there's some safety and stability concerns for some companies.
