When I was 17, my father was so stupid, I didn't want to be seen with him in public. When I was 24, I was amazed at how much the old man had learned in just 7 years.
There are so few instances of players with few games getting awards that it almost doesn't seem like something to waste time over. Like is all of this over Bradley Beal making NBA third team last year?

Are they doing that for All-Rookie? Because that would be real stupid

Really just seems like a dumb idea in general, some guy is going to have like a legendary half season and miss out on All-NBA.

If you think this is minor bullshit to negotiate over in a CBA then hoo boy I have bad news for you about all CBA negotiations everywhere.

Yeah because load management is like barely an issue.

Only banged up players and old players really do it.

Everyone. I have excellent news.

quote:

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The sounds of Nickelback coming from the portable speaker inside the Miami Heat locker room were unmistakable. As the rest of his teammates and Heat staffers quietly showered, got dressed and picked over a postgame pizza spread following a 126-114 overtime loss to the Orlando Magic on Saturday, Jimmy Butler decided it was the the right time to pump up the volume on his stereo and blast the familiar sounds of Chad Kroeger's voice.

And Butler, who had just poured in a game-high 38 points in 39 minutes sang every word to each song.

Why is it a L for players? They are still getting the same number of awards, it's just going to the players who play instead of the ones who don't (in theory, in practice I don't think it'll actually mean anything, who gets all-NBA when playing 40 games?)

Latest scuttle from a lot of players is load management is coming from coaching staff as much or more than its coming from players. I think thats why both sides are alligned at wanting to set something up. Players as they'd like to be able to push back if they want against being told to sit, and from the ownership it's a tragedy of the commons kind of thing.

Please let me get hurt and ruin our playoff chances for the love of the game

I wonder what tone they are going to take with it. The seventeen-or-whatever-part narrative podcast thing from Ramona Shelburne (which this is based on as I understand, or at least she has some kind of production credit) wasn't nearly as interesting as it pretended to be so I really think they should make it a comedy. Because, well, it's a comedy.

I don’t think it’s an L for anybody but it does have a real effect on supermaxes unless those get changed.

In reality the only things that matters in the CBA negotiations are: what gets counted as BRI? And, what’s the split between players and owners? Everything else is just there to try to get concessions on those numbers.

It's mostly this. It's the path of least resistance for everybody.

More like "Please let me put up numbers since I am up for a contract next year". Load management hasn't really correlated with reduced injuries (If you are able to just go harder when you're on the floor it takes away any advantage), but it can create an imbalance if you have a team that's pushing it vs a team that's letting guys go out there and put up big numbers.

first part: Sure, but it's as likely to cause more super-max eligible players as less.

second part: Mostly agree, though players have prioritized some of their choices on freedom of contracts lately, and in general theres a lot of competition-type issues that can only be addressed by the CBA. So I don't think the other stuff is just window dressing.

I suspect it'll get played up- i will say the FX docuseries on the OJ Trial had some.. interesting choices. While i think the other stuff was understandable, turning Johnnie Cochran into an emotional flamethrower all day every day was completely wrong. The reason Johnnie's stuff worked is because he turned it on in moderation, he wasn't yelling during random motion hearings.

Couldn’t that minimum game rule backfire on players horribly? I’m thinking 4th year player that looks good for all-nba, but the coach keeps him under the games threshold so he’s not eligible for the rookie max.

Again, there's already basically an unofficial games played minimum among the people who vote on this kind of thing. How many guys played under 50ish games and made all-NBA?

I mean that kinda thing can ruin someone's all-nba chances anyway. If its blatant its a problem and even if it's not it's not the look you want for an NBA franchise.
