My wife has seen Terminator, and Terminator 2. Multiple times over the course of our 20 year relationship.

We tried out the Sarah Connor Chronicles on Hulu on a recommendation, and we're on episode, like, 7 or 8, when suddenly:

"Wait a minute, it doesn't make sense! How could Reese be Johns father if John has to send him back in time?"

Subtle.

In the context of sci-fi, where anything goes, I think someone (Kyle) or something (the arm/chip) affecting the past then just switches over to the tangent universe, to borrow a phrase from Donnie Darko.

Except the Terminator tangent universe doesn't implode after 28 days.

Imagine four balls on the edge of a cliff a two lane highway. The left lane goes straight ahead, but the right lane does a Hot Wheels-like loop-de-loop, so it goes up and back and then it comes back down, once again parallel with the left lane, before it slightly veers off more and more to the right. As it goes forwards, it gets farther and farther from the original left lane, showing that a small change at one point can bring you to a vastly different destination.

I've not seen Sarah Connor Chronicles -- is Reese a character in it? Otherwise I don't understand why it doesn't make sense

No, it took her that long to realize John Connor is a paradox/stable time loop.

Kyle Reese is not a character in it.

Exploration is ill-advised.
Dark Fate is James Cameron coming back to the franchise iirc and kinda throws out a lot of the implicit stuff post-T2 movies did like having John Connor be basically a destined hero of prophecy rather than just a guy who was in the right place at the right time. That the conflict still happens in a future without John Connor or Skynet, because all the actual ingredients to the powder keg are still there.

In Pulp Fiction, Butch sneaks back into his apartment to get his watch. Vincent is waiting there for him, but is in the bathroom. Butch rumages around a bit and makes some noise, but Vincent doesn't react until he comes out and sees Butch, who kills him. After leaving, he runs into Marcelus on the street, where he is carrying a box and some to go cups.

Marcellus went out to grab some breakfast while they waited for Butch, and Vincent thought that Butch making noise in the apartment was Marcellus coming back!

See, I had only put half of this together; I had realized that Marsellus/Marcelus/Ving Rames had been there with Vincent, and was walking back, but I never realized that's why the noise Butch was making didn't tip Vincent off. Nice one.

No, he's right. One of the DVD releases of the movie has a trivia subtitle track that confirms it.

Vincent is a pistol guy, the MAC-10 belongs to Marsellus. He presumably left it there because it has a big old suppressor on it and wouldn't really be hideable when he went to get breakfast.

Vincent sucks at his job and was carried by Jules, but not that badly.

I didn't mean Marsellus wouldn't have one himself, just that you never see Vincent use anything else and they even mention they don't even have shotguns for the briefcase retrieval job.

Since a lot of people miss the Marsellus out for breakfast bit, assuming Vincent brought the MAC-10 and then stupidly left it out is the only thing that otherwise fits though. Vincent is absolutely stupid, just a bit less.

No, it's -40 where it gets cold enough to not matter if it's C or F. You're thinking of the melting point of mercury, which is -37.9F/--38.9C at standard pressure - looks like to get mercury to be solid at room temperature you'd have to increase pressure to 10kbar, which offers some diifficulty in filming (Source: The Phase Diagrams of the Elements. https://www.osti.gov/servlets/purl/4010212/). No, they are saying that -38 is close enough in both C and F to not care about the difference. Or rather, at this temperature no-one should give a poo poo which it is. We're not doing chemistry here.
