I don't like the sound of that on first reaction, coming at it from something like Ghost of Tsushima where juggling all your stances on the fly is as important as the moves themselves. But I'm definitely gonna reserve any real judgment until seeing it in practice, maybe the restrictions fit better for whatever reason.

Exactly. Stances in those games had specific purpose and countered different enemies, switching them up was not strictly necessary but it felt good to change things up multiple times throughout an encounter. Hard to say without playing, but it might be that stances in this game are more preference and playstyle. Though it's also possible you might gain a way to add another active stance through skill points or game progession

They said using the stances to overcome certain enemies was going to be important. So it seems weird that you can't just use all the stances that are apparently a critical part of overcoming challenges.

I like this system. It encourages you to choose carefully which style you use, depending on the enemies you face. And probably acts as a difficulty enhance, when you later get up against diverse groups of enemies while only wielding two styles that are very good against some of them.

I also like this idea; hard counter the enemies you may struggle with, but if you're good at handling an enemy type regardless, maybe you don't need your double blade stance, etc. Kind of reminds me of Jedi Academy where if you went double blade you lost fast and strong stance, so it was an active choice you were making, general game balance notwithstanding. I understand the other side of things, though, and wouldn't be surprised if upgrades let you do all 4(?) stances by endgame.

IIRC from one of the preview videos, you can change stances at any meditation point. They were pretty numerous in FO so it shouldn't be hard to switch up stances as needed.

What in particular would you like to see improved?
Having played through the game just recently:
  • In the Batman games, you had a little icon indicating someone was attacking (that you could block or counter). That seems something entirely within the Jedi wheelhouse. Of course, you'd loose some of the 'Souls-esque' perfect blocking mechanic.
  • Less people with weapons that can somehow block lightsabers, unless they're lightsabers or shields. poo poo can cut through bulkheads but some guys cattle prod is too much to overcome.
  • Force 'slow' seemed weirdly overpowered but also underwhelming. I basically used it to slow down platforms and cheese a couple of fights. I just didn't know how it fit thematically, as opposed to push/pull/jump.
  • As many have mentioned before: The lightsabers feel more like the props you buy at Disney than actual laser swords that can cut and cauterize with a touch.
  • Can I use a blaster? I didn't think just because you have a lightsaber means that blasters are useless.

It's a fighting style, and can't be used to shoot at targets at long range, per an IGN video

Single-blade's your all-rounder
Staff is crowd control
Twin is glass cannon; you take more damage, but can dodge or guard-cancel out of start-up attack animations
Crossgaurd is heavy and slow, with massive windups and extremely short range (although it has a charge move that involves you throwing it, so...)

There's not a lot of info on the blaster stance yet, although commentary mentions using your lightsaber to replenish ammo, and it's a push/pull style of combat that encourages close range fighting to create options, which might mean you attack to build up an ammo count, then use that ammo to delete a stamina bar for a faster saber kill on another enemy

Very cool article about NPCs on IGN: https://www.ign.com/articles/star-wars-jedi-survivor-get-a-little-help-from-your-ai-friends-ign-first

So that means combat party members are confirmed, Bode and some others they've not revealed for now. It seems they only join you on certain missions, but this is a very welcome addition. Cal traversing all these awesome places with just BD-1 as his companion was always a bit of a wasted opportunity. Taking your party members in Dragon Age to certain places and hearing their impressions was always a highlight of these games. And it was always weird that Cere never joined Cal except for the final mission. I do hope we get Merrin as an NPC to follow us around for some missions.

Just finished it

Jedi: Battle Scars spoilers Greez lost an arm, Fifth Brother is a boring punk, relations between the Mantis crew are really rocky, they're still all together but starting to butt heads on goals and plans, Merrin's pansexual and her and Cal briefly discuss any possible feels between them - end result is that Merrin doesn't feel that way about Cal, Cal loves Merrin deeply but does not want to make it romantic. There's some surprisingly purple prose between the stormtrooper defector and Merrin -- like, not anything pornographic, but more time spend discussing smooching than I usually see in Star Wars -- no complaints here since I'm a card carrying Relyo fic reader. The macguffin of the book is schematics to build this thing called a Shroud, which would function as a near-perfect stealth device. Stealth like the IRL stealth bombers in that your ship or home or whatever is still visible but cannot be picked up on traditional sensor sweeps. The good guys want to use it to set up safe houses and undetectable ships, the bad guys wanna weaponize it. Bunch of cute references to stuff from the first game -- "Oggdo Bogdo is way too strong", "the pink poncho was a bit much", etc.

All in all, a fun romp of a read but I don't think plot wise anything is going to be relevant to the next game

"Ah," Ratz had said, at last, "the artiste."
I started this up recently since there was a free PS5 update and I'm not sure about grabbing the sequel yet. I'm still not sure; the combat is real clunky compared to the Soulsborne style its emulating and most of the levels feel very sparse and half-baked, but at the same time its easily the prettiest Star Wars game that I think has ever been released, and being able to force push a stormtrooper off a cliff to his screaming death in crisp 4k seems like a worthwhile experience. I also played around a bit with the photo mode:

God, I love the first level. It may be the best part of the game from a visual design standpoint.

Look at this poo poo! This is literally just the back of the train Cal is on for about five minutes and this gonk droid and pile of luggage has more unique assets than like, the entire Kashyyyk cave system.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT A LAGRANGE POINT IS?
I just replayed Fallen Order and the lack of fast travel just kept making me angrier and angrier the further into the game I got. Why did they leave out such a basic and important QoL feature? Going back to a planet to get something you missed, having to take half an hour to figure out how to get there and then another half hour just trying to figure out how to get back is not fun!

All they had to do was put in fast travel between bonfires. That's it! Fast travel would break or trivialize a specific gameplay sequence? Then disable fast travel for the duration of that sequence and then reenable it immediately afterward! This is not hard! gently caress!

The very first thing I did after completing the game was check to see if the new game would have fast travel. It would have been a 100% dealbreaker if it didn't. I just hope to god they fired whoever greenlit the sliding sequences. Those were not fun.

It will also be great if they've decided to not make chests be pointless this time around. If literally the only thing you're going to put in chests is cosmetic items then it would be better to just unlock all the cosmetics at the start of the game and leave out the chest system altogether.

Finished up Battle Scars, and it's a fantastic read

Absolutely love that the pink poncho was in fact worn for a while

The new characters felt a little too shoehorned with how This Is An OC they felt, and the twist is hardly unique, but if you've only got one book to use them, I can understand rushing the characterization along

Highly recommend giving it a read if you want more of the Mantis crew

Hell, If absolutely nothing else, give me the option to fast travel back to the ship from a meditation circle. If you wanna keep it diagetic and not purely gamey, unlock that option once Merrin is in your party (and, as you say, unlocked from the start in new journey +)

HI I LIKE TO GIVE ADVICE ON RELATIONSHIPS
If you want to have cool slides, fine, but you need to make them fun, which means you can't fly off the edge, and when you leap off the bottom, Cal will make it to whatever he's supposed to grab on to.

I think part of the reason the slides suck so much is how incongruous they are, like in the first level ot makes sense that you could slide down the side of a big derelict spaceship or whatever but then Zeffo just has these random perfectly smooth ice slides everywhere and it feels totally incongruous

Trip report: killed the Ninth Sister in one try, which makes me think playing Elden Ring tightened up my 'dodge extremely obvious tells' gamer reflexes. Found the pink poncho again. Tried to get that 'kick the alien horse that kicked you' trophy and its literally impossible.

Dathomir is mostly ugly but it doesn't look bad with filters! Also its kinda dumb you can optionally go there early but only explore like 15% of it (though I guess you can also get the double-bladed lightsaber early but its so barely situationally useful).

I really like the idea of the bounty hunter kidnapping bit but it's so slapdash in execution. You auto-lose an easy fight you're winning, run through a couple corridors and then fight a random slew of enemies you've already met. The big holo criminal announcer guy is pretty cool though.

The big Saw Guerrera escort mission on Kashyyyk was way better than I remember, but the shadowlands part suuucks. I think even the devs gave up on it because in the final swamp bit just before the trees they just said 'gently caress it' and put all five collectibles like twenty feet apart. I did like the random monkey just hanging out in the trees by himself though, so I took a picture next to him.

I do like that the saber bosses are designed around mastering the Dodge (9, since she's got those huge sweeping attacks that comes in either 3 or 4 swing combos) and Parry (the next one) mechanics, which leaves them open to counter attacks and melts through their stamina respectively

Pretty sure you can kick after any dodge tap, so try Slow > Dodge+Kick (it's got some pretty generous tracking on it, which is nice)

Also, if you haven't already, go back to the wall run cave on Bogano at some point (after getting double jump to save you another trip for a Force essence) and look up :3:

The trophy doesn't require you to counterattack the thing with a kick. You don't have to time it or anything. Let one kick you and then kick it one time at literally any point before you kill it. It's a pretty easy trophy.
