The ads never really bother me, though I just hammer the ffwd button a few times when they start going to break. That said, Mia Wong is never my favorite guest--her narratives are always a little frenetic and unorganized and the nervous giggling doesn't help (I am admittedly a grouch about that kind of stuff). If it were her first time I'd cut some slack but she's been on the network for years now.

I was typing up the same complaint earlier, I usually like the subject matter that Mia and Garrison come in to school Robert on but they both constantly interrupt themselves on something they wrote. You can actually hear a huge difference when Mia starts reading something verbatim that somebody else wrote, she's very articulate up until the verbatim reading ends and she goes back to the main episode's script. I know Robert sticks pretty close to a script, to the point that he sometimes repeats lines that he's already read once, it makes me wonder how much Mia wrote ahead of time and how much is outlined with broader points that get filled in as the episode goes on.

Yeah I'm curious about the repeated parts as well. It's started happening several episodes ago and I was assuming it was something related to buffering as well. I listen using google podcasts which weirdly breaks a lot for certain podcasts for some strange reason, but in a way where the podcast just stops entirely until I start a new episode and then just restart the old one. It seems to be especially bad for some podcasts over others for some reason. But yeah all that aside, it's always BtB's that usually ends with some weird repeated bit at the end.

Oh I’ve had the same issue with BtB and literally only with BtB, no other CZM podcasts, IHR or even at all. It’s been going on since at least Aug 2021. My partner pointed it out when we were moving, saying “the Hitler guy already mentioned that”, and that’s how I learned that my partner recognizes Robert’s voice, and he is…Hitler Guy. My partner would like the podcast very much, it’s entirely up his alley, but no, “he’s Hitler Guy because anytime I pass by you listening to him it’s about Hitler”

I played part 2 at 1X speed instead of the usual 1.5X and found it much easier to follow. This one was actually about bastardry while part 1 felt too much like them making fun of a weird kid. One thing that Mia only touched on was Fischer’s antics after playing his rematch with Spassky. As Mia noted, Fischer’s match was illegal and he was wanted by the US authorities for playing it. At one point, he was being sheltered by the Polgárs, a famous Hungarian chess family (all three daughters are masters, with Judit being the strongest woman player ever). They also happen to be Jewish. Bobby, despite being literally protected from arrest by these people, would not shut the gently caress up about how the holocaust was a hoax and all kinds of other antisemitic stuff. Like, it’s almost all he talked about. Eventually the dad László said “Bobby, did my relatives just vanish through some kind of magic trick?” and they booted his rear end out.
