Turn up the volume and watch the mirror. You can hear stuff clinking (sounds like buckles) and see the driver fighting with a shoulder belt for a moment.

Looks like probably stock 3 point seat belts, which for ice racing I'd be fine with as long as I'm not looking at trees. Stock ones are easy to get out of in a hurry.

Dude in the green car had some serious cat-like reflexes.

oh, yeah i was assuming just standard seatbelts too, when I was talking about harnesses i was more referring to the 4 and 5 point versions

e: That's what I figured. That would probably be a snuff film if they had full harnesses.
okay yeah my lack of knowledge on harnesses is showing.

Looks like a late 70s/early 80s Chevy, so it would have had retracting 3 point belts with 1 clip instead of separate lap and shoulder belts.

i thought they had those harnesses now where there's just one big center button and you punch it and all the straps come out at once. is that not the case?

No, that's exactly the case and I'm as confused as you with everyone talking about how a harness would have been a death trap.

A full harness is *easier* to get out of than a three point and faster. Hit the buckle and you're out, it's that fast no matter even if you are upside down - especially if you are upside down (ask me how I know). A three point would be where you would be struggling to disengage your shoulder, not a harness that falls away once the buckle is disengaged

From how fast they got out, I'm assuming yes. Even watching the video in slowmo, I see the driver look straight down, reach, and then the belts are flopping free, just like he'd hit the button on a harness.

An even MODERATELY modern harness is faster to get out of than an airplane seatbelt.

edit: it's apparent who's used a harness and who hasn't; should have refreshed before replying, but my reply stays.

Mazda doesn't have an I6, and the only thing they make RWD is the MX-5.

Eh to be fair to my dumb rear end, I haven’t gone racing with a full 5 point harness since I was like 10 doing jr dragsters 30 years ago and I had a complicated rear end setup that would not have been good in an actual crash. I mean I’ve seen modern ones but have never used one.

Think about the dam/dike they are standing on and what it's made of. Also what is rushing through said dam that is broken.

Putting something in there that wont wash away slows the flow of water right down preventing or slowing futher washaway damage and even creates something solid to use for debris and using as a base buckets of stones and gravel to seal the breach. The cost of some shiity trucks is likely to be a lot less than the water damage / aloows them to recover faster and stop losing money

Edit : Also the dirt in the trays weigh the trucks down so they dont get floated away

In 1959 a coal company in Pennsylvania delved too greedily and too shallow under the Susquehanna river. The river broke through into the mine and it took 3 days of dumping poo poo into the whirlpool before they could stop the flow, by which time a enormous number of interconnected mines in the valley had flooded. They resorted to dumping railroad hopper cars into the hole to try to give all the rock they were pouring in something to catch on.

I live pretty near to Centralia and up until a few years ago it was fun to go hang out and walk the abandoned Rt. 61 (graffiti highway) but idiots ruined it for everyone by partying and causing disturbances so the police had the road completely covered with dirt mounds to keep the riff raff out. Now it’s just somewhere I drive through on occasion.

Here’s me ripping a sweet drift turn on the highway in my old kart

This is a gripe but also a question to see if I'm the only one experiencing it.

I have almost been in 5 accidents this week purely due to the other car indicating/lack of. As I am Aussie you USA peeps might not have this particular issue, but I've noticed a lot of newer vehicles have TERRIBLE opposite side indicator reflections. I have to guess if they are exiting a round-a-bout. I've had a habit of checking front wheel angle as a bit of a tell but even when they ARE indicating the exit of the round-a-bout I can barely tell in broad daylight.

I pass through three roundabouts on my commute to work, here in the state of Georgia. They're well-built and well-traveled. I'm the only one I've ever seen who uses their signal to exit the roundabout, and if I do see a signal, it's someone signaling into it.
