I went to sebring for the first time this weekend. What an incredible race(s)! I've been to Le Mans a bunch of times and while Sebring is unique to itself, the vibe is very much the same. Endurance racing fans are the best, and endurance racing is the best.

I have made some serious friends from the track, just starting conversations and helping each other out and suddenly its massive group texts with people I see once or twice a year. I love it.

Also, reposting my post from pyf:

We were sitting 15' or so down the way from this going on. The two boys just taking turns flipping their chairs over backwards and laughing like crazy. The day before, the younger one took a football to the forehead and then sat in a sand pit eating a bag of chips with the most zen look on his face.

Oh hey the Sambadrome is getting motorsports use again - it was the front straight when IndyCar raced there in the 2010s.

Those races were dumb, but fun. I’m of course partial to it because who won, but the finish to 2013 was Real Good.

ACO has started a ticket resale portal for people to offload their tickets so, if you want to attempt to get one, you can try now.

Liam Lawson became the first rookie to win on debut in Japanese Formula Car racing in 45 years - the last rookie to do that was Marc Surer.

There's one of those race track resorts that opened up here that charges $49,000 for the cheapest membership plus $3,500 a year in membership dues that got loving roasted for trying to do everything, even picking up garbage, with volunteers.

Race marshalls are traditionally always volunteers. I'm sure there's plenty of side benefits, but mostly it's people who are passionate about motorsports and willing to give their free time to making sure it continues to function.

I'm pretty sure that unless you're writing letters and attending your monthly SCCA club meetings to get on a soapbox about fair pay for marshalls, you give significantly less of a poo poo about it than the people actually doing the work.

Yeah, it's a scam to me. I cringe everytime someone says "We can't go racing without them".

Then maybe your multi billion sport can loving pay the people who could save your life one day.

Yeah Marshalls for semi pro and pro series should 100% get paid.

NHRA’s marshalls are called Safety Safari and it’s a paid position. It’s a lot of “if this isn’t done the event can’t happen” work. Stuff like coordinating parking for trailers, track prep, incident response. All one team. They don’t get paid enough. And the pay scales down considerably for the same position attached to tracks instead of the tours.

The only realistic solution I can see is getting the surrounding communities to accept motorsports parks into their hearts the way they do other types of sporting stadiums. Probably moreso because getting race cars off public roads saves lives.
