Seems like a big smoking accident in Crimea. Multiple explosions reported near the Dzhankoi airbase.

If only there was a fast way to work up 1,000 tanks in long-term storage, upgrade them to the modern standard, and then ship them to the other side of the world while simultaneously training 1,000 tank crews and probably three times as many mechanics.

For comparison, it took the Iraq army three years to get the first 140 tanks it ordered.
Which is why the process started a year ago, right, so that it completes as soon as possible? The training is 22 weeks.

It took Iraq that long because it was regular procurement and Uncle Sam was around to keep the Iranians out.

the only way those hinds were getting in the air at this point was if an explosion threw them up there in the first place so checks out

haha holy poo poo that's going to HURT

Interestingly, the Kalibr-NK is a variant meant specifically for targeting surface ships. Are they repurposing Kalibr anti-shipping missiles the same way they're repurposing S-300s and S-400s in land-to-land strikes? Holy poo poo what a waste of materiel. They've fired Kalibrs throughout the war but this is the first time I've recalled seeing specifically the Kalibr-NKs which would have a lot of implications about the state of Russian cruise missile stocks

Not at the full production or fielding stage yet, but they have prototypes with test flights, including weapons bay usage.

That's for armed stealth drones though, for surveillance stealth drones, it's basically an open secret that they've been deployed for a while:

With lots of layup molds and lots of cheap small engines they could make thousands of shahed type drones. They could also make ones without payload, send them to the target to distract air defense in order to save on cost.

With all of these aid packages I wonder if any of them include materials and machinery to make weapons. I know that even with a small shop and a group of determined people you could make some effective weaponry.

These new drones have been in the making since last autumn when Russia first started using Shaheds as terror weapons. If this is the debut of the new weapons system, this could mean the tide has irrevocably turned. And if their range is as good, suddenly there's a lot of vulnerable C2 nodes, fuel depots, ammo storages, and logistics centers that are in play to be next.

Probably not in any serious capacity right now but it wouldn't surprise me at all if after the war a hefty portion of the economic and industrial rebuilding aid for their defense industries in particular didn't include a package of "we'll conveniently help you to rebuild your military industrial complex...to NATO standards." or something along those lines.

Shame that Sweden's NATO application is stuck, then we could even have IKEA-style instructions and give away that useless tool with every drone box.

And have that picture where you are expected to have another person with you to lift it, and use carpet when assembling one to avoid damaging the floor.

Kökblokket, comes in 2 boxes. Some assembly required.

^^^^ I think that is against several international treaties and it is inhumane even against the Russian PMCs.

The bulk cost of drones arent the payload, so you might as well load em all with explosive payloads and throw spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks.
