this is so unreliable I personally don't do that as a vet. Either let others deal with it or just shoot it down. Daily people try it and it works maybe 2, 3 times and the rest of them explode on their faces.

Best counter is mage stagger or mindburst.

I will admit i've stopped doing it in pubs because they'lll just shoot it while i'm mid shove, but with a group i'll just call "i've got it" as i go to do it and its fine.

picked Darktide up to play with some buddies and i'm looking forward to playing it. i like to kill stuff with guns at range so i guess Veteran is a good class pick, are there any good guides I should read or watch? :3:

  • The meta loadout for Veterans are Power Sword and the Kantrael XII. Power Sword to clear hordes and kill heavily armored enemies like Crushers (The fully carapace armored Ogryn), XII to pick off everything else. But honestly anything can be made to work with minimal issue up to difficulty 3. It's difficulty 4+ where weaker weapons become painful.
  • The Zealot's charge has a couple of extra effects not mentioned. It causes a small aoe stagger hit around it's ending point, so it can knock dogs or stagger something out of an attack animation. It also debuffs armor by 1 level vs your any of your attacks (including ranged) for a small period of time. This is especially useful vs Crushers, since you will be able to charge them with a ranged weapon and be dealing damage against Flak instead of Carapce.
  • The Bulwark's (Shield carrying Ogryn) shield hitbox is a 180 degree arc in front of it based on your position vs it, not the actual shield model. So if you are in front of the Ogryn by even the smallest amount, no matter where you shoot you will hit the shield. So you could be shooting it from the side at areas that are clearly unshielded, but because you are still in it's front 180 degree arc you hit shield.
  • When encumbered by carrying munitions stashes/medicae power packs/cooling rods non-Ogryn characters will move faster overall by spamming sliding. Ogryn are un-encumbered so just moving normally is faster.
  • Ammo Crates have 4 charges and each charge will give replenish ammo to 100%.
  • Force Swords (The Psyker Sword) has infinite dodges.
  • With the Scab Captain (The Assassination Mission target) you want the entire team to be meleeing him to bring down his Vortex shield as fast as possible.

maybe works better with a char thats moving around a lot, but these encouters are almost never "whoo here it comes at you all alone" but mixed in the middle of some poo poo going on and as a vet I don't want to be in a tight crowd *and* deal with shovig some random bursters around so I just keep my distance and shoot it, or have one of the other classes deal with it. I tried it a while and regardless of interference as a vet it almost always puts me in a bad situation the class is not made for even when the push as such worked.

I play hi intensity 5 currently almost exclusively and only public, can't say that the success rate is homogenous even with good players and no interference of others. Also I think the person asked was just starting this game and wanted to go vet (good choice) so I would not recommend caring for advanced stuff like shoving bursters reliable at the beginning, thats for later.

Two cents on starting character, imo I think Zealot or Ogryn are the best choices because it gives you some more leeway to learn how to use melee which is one of the most important parts of the game. They also generally have strong and fun ranged options as well so you can still enjoy blasting dudes.

Vet's a good second class to level, and Psyker I def would not recommend as first class.

Ooo, didn't know that one. It hasn't come up for me before.
Also that reminds me.
  • Wounds do not grant health. They just let you get downed more and make you lose less health after a down. So the wound curio is one you only see the benefit of if you get downed, and really only if you get downed a lot. All the other curios have an immediate benefit. Calling this out because I see a lot of new players stacking the crap out of wounds.
  • Difficulty 1 gives you an extra wound
  • Difficulty 4 and 5 remove one of your wounds
  • Ogryn should not bother with Wound curios. If you are getting downed so many times that it actually would help, you are doing something wrong. Drop a difficulty or ask for some advice.
  • On Non-Ogryn, for difficulty 3 and below the same advice above applies. Though difficulty 4+ you will want a Wound curio when starting out. You are going to get downed, there is no avoiding it. Shooters and Shotgunners start putting out way more damage and it will catch you off guard. But you can reach the point between gearing and gameplay experience where you can swap out the Wound curio for something with more immediate benefits.
  • Health is what will help with Grimoire corruption because Grims deal a flat amount of health on pickup and tick for a flat amount of health over time.
  • Health Curios cap out at 21%
  • Toughness Curios cap out at 17%
  • Stamina Curios cap out at 3
  • Wound curios cap out at 1

I need to get around to making a full set of toughness curios for my Zealot and Ogryn and see how that goes. I pretty sure any time I take large amounts of health damage is when a shotgunner gets the drop on me and destroys my toughness.

I tried this for a while, it didn't feel like it helped much in any way. Since you only have 100 base toughness at max you'll have like ~60% toughness bonus so about ~160 toughness total. This is like barely better than the base Vet. +Health gives far better return on investment since your base health is already fairly high.

Thinking about things, now that I can guarantee one shot headshots on any standard specialists and one shot bodyshots on normal shooters with volleyfire on, the critical hit bonus feat that drains stamina on vet is somewhat less useful. Maybe it's time to return to frag storm.

Might help me kill reapers and maniacs faster though but...

Edit: would be nice to be able to sprint again after shooting.

IT DOES? Huh!

But the bleeeed nades has been handy in the past as well?

Also since my lasgun seems pretty strong and it has ghost iv, is there value in adding in between the eyes for suppression immunity as well? Damage seems good for most targets already so maybe helping me land those shots more would be good.

It's actually not bad but you're pretty much forced into %based toughness regen like Momentum. If you have 100 toughness, 10% is 10 toughness; if you have 160 toughness, 10% is 16. That might not seem like much, but getting an extra 6 toughness on every swing adds up very quickly. Taken with Enemies Within/Without and it can be very effective.

I find health less helpful on Damnation because most things will just straight up murder you in two hits anyway.

The nade bleed talent will help ensure any poxwalkers/groaners hit by the edge of the explosion dies and helps to proc bleed talents like the Ogryn damage reduction against bleeding enemies if they have it. But the other classes, with the exception of some really niche loadouts, don't really need the additional help for clearing hordes. And killing off elites faster, especially gunners and ragers, will do a lot more than some damage reduction triggering with a bunch of guys about to die.

For an XII build, the uptime from Counterfire + Unwavering Focus damage reduction and Volley Fire suppression immunity negates most of the benefits of Ghost and Between the Eyes Blessing. Best XII blessing is Opening Salvo as a slight pause between shots is enough to reset the counter. Not so sure about the 2nd blessing, I prefer Deadly Accurate but I can see an argument being made for Falter vs Reapers, Dogs, etc where you might want a consistent stagger vs a potential crit bonus.

opening salvo works as long as your crosshair resets back to base accuracy

2nd and 3rd shot blessings work when you keep shooting and your reticle keeps blooming.

Edit: Nevermind if someone actually did thorough testing and found this to not be true then that sucks.

much worse. It's practically useless with how long you need to wait according to the gun psyker video that was post in the thread.

edit: to add to the advice upthread, you don't really need Ghost or the suppression removing blessing as Vet because your Ult basically solves either issue. They're much more useful as a Zealot who doesn't have basically any ranged damage mitigation.

It makes you immune to suppression for the entire duration. Feel free to test it out, it's not hard to notice how a reaper or gunner shooting at you causes no suppression whatsoever with Volley Fire on.

Tbh Power Cycler is very good but not 100% necessary. Your Power Sword is a fall back weapon or for helping to clear hordes, your main job is dealing with poo poo at range so it's much more worth getting a really good gun to do your primary job first. Being able to one shot body shot shooters and two-shot gunners is a big deal, especially vs flak armor.

Besides, Melk's is right there and you can just keep an eye on it while building a good gun for Power Cycler, or you might spot a gun with a great blessing that lets you fix a poor blessing roll on an otherwise good gun. Hell, once you get comfortable at 5s you can work on both at the same time at a pretty good clip.

Basically, don't force Power Cycler and let it come when it comes.

Thats a fair point. Is it possible to reach those breakpoints without volleyfire? Or is volleyfire mandatory? Fwiw my ghost iv/head crit chance+ lasgun is at those break points with volley fire already.

Anyone having insane haz4s tonight? Me and my friend just has an absolute poo poo show 5 missions in a row. We had someone go down instantly then a mutant tossed me ahead of the rest of the team, which got knocked off a ledge so i rushed forward to get the downed guy up and walked into a loving room with 3 ragers AND a plague ogryn spawned. Another mission had a plague ogryn throwing everyone off ledges while we had 6 loving bursters spawn within 3 minutes. I watched 3 mutants spawn and jump down this ledge as one group but thankfully i had 2 grenade boxes and killed 2 but i've never seen 3 mutants at once like that.

I also saw 9 dreg shotgunners at the same time with gunners, rampagers, a bomber, AND a sniper. We normally run haz4's and i've never seen poo poo like this before haha.
