Wait, do you not remember the thread in TCC where a guy talked about passing out on his arm for days and then screaming at the doctors not to amputate it despite like all the muscle and tissue having died off from lack of blood?

IIRC he posted really gross post op photos of what was left of his arm. Like they just cut out most of the muscle and left it hanging there like an empty sack.

The right arm, just below the tied off bandage thingy. There was no eyeball syringe because IIRC I made it before that whole saga happened.

I lost my copy long ago, although come to think of it, I might've originally posted it in a previous sagas thread.

I am definitely not an expert on the guy but in the mma threads at least I feel like he mostly lost. Like I came to remember his name as being that guy who made complicated bets on mma that seemed to almost but not quite work out over and over, for supposed large sums. I’d assumed he was either wealthy or life ruiningly profligate or both.

Same, apart from an intense few seconds every few years when I stumble across a roulette wheel and place a single 20 dollar wager. Win or lose, I'm done after that. The single time it has actually hit was a great big cheer and whoop sounds, and a real concerned look on the pit boss' face until he saw the meager bet. Then a little chuckle and congratulations.

Yea while the MMA betting thread is named after him, "beating" his bookie (because he won too many of his large bets and was cut off), he certainly had his fair share of losses. Couple big ones, usually followed by breaks or pool hustling to get his bank roll going again. He worked or maybe owned a car dealership as well? So gambling was still his side thing. I think at least one goon visited him in Vegas a few times, but I'm not sure how often or if more did- though he was always offering.

He was absolutely committed to the bit if it wasn't true, between his weekly posting of his odds and the AMA. It's just more fun to believe either way

one time i went to new orleans, played the penny slots for like five minutes, hit the jackpot (winning about 25 dollars) and was like "okay thats it for me"

my brother likes to gamble and told me that he won, and then lost, like 30k playing roulette and im just like you loving dumbass. i mean his net winnings were zero, he just loving won and gambled away a vast sum.

It's fine.
Don't worry about it.
Arm reduction made me remember this old post:

quote:

I was in middle school when Dragonball Z was a huge hit. I was a dorky middle schooler when the Androids and Cell Saga were on, and I rushed home every day to watch it. I started studying it, going online to research the Japanese version and all the episodes that hadn't hit the US yet, and became a pretty big name online on the Temple O' Trunks and DBZ: Uncensored message boards. Incredibly nerdy looking back but at the time, it was my life.

That's where the story would end for most people, it would be an embarrassing childhood moment. But I also discovered something else at that time - I really liked working out and getting stronger. I copied the DBZ method of training - I filled a bookbag with rocks, tied lead weights into my clothes, weight down my shoes with cement blocks, stuff like that. And then I'd try working out in that. And for a while it worked really well. I was doing a lot of high impact exercises and my skinny/flabby body was responding well. I was bulking up and in my mind, I was becoming one step closer to the characters I idolized on TV. I wasn't completely stupid, I knew I couldn't turn super saiya-jin or anything like that.

Until one morning I couldn't get out of bed.

My parents had to carry me to the car and took me to the ER. I had torn several vertebral arteries, which lead to multiple strokes. I was 15 years old.

I spent the next several weeks in the hospital recovering, and then nearly a year after that in physical therapy. My left arm is still noticeably smaller than my right one, and I'm skinny enough that I wear a women's small T-shirt, despite being a nearly 30 year old man.

All I’m saying is that if you’ve hung around career gamblers long enough (let alone someone who consistently bets MMA and wins wtf) - this is extremely unusual. Like, not impossible or anything but crazy unlikely. Even finding a book to take a bet where you’re at 200-1 odds is really hard even if your bet has no chance to hit.

Case in point: My old roomie and I got wasted and spent an evening calling AC and Vegas sports books to take a 13 team parlay on opening day before the NFL season even started and literally no one would take our money.

Anyway we drank a 32oz bottle of grand mariner, smoked a blunt and he threw up all over his girlfriend when we went back inside. Good times

E: no local bookie would ever ever EVER take a beating like that and let the guy continue to bet. Like; that isn’t a thing. Some guy hits big 2-3x and the book will stop answering your calls and we’re not even talking fantasy gazillionaire numbers like this guy was. You can take a casino for that kind of money. Bookies are largely just fantasy sports nerds these days. Some kick up to someone but most are just eeking out a living and can’t cover massive losses like that.

E: 12 years later buddy’s wife thinks I am a bad influence for some reason
