All I’m saying is that if you’ve hung around career gamblers long enough (let alone someone who consistently bets MMA and wins wtf) - this is extremely unusual. Like, not impossible or anything but crazy unlikely. Even finding a book to take a bet where you’re at 200-1 odds is really hard even if your bet has no chance to hit.

Case in point: My old roomie and I got wasted and spent an evening calling AC and Vegas sports books to take a 13 team parlay on opening day before the NFL season even started and literally no one would take our money.

Anyway we drank a 32oz bottle of grand mariner, smoked a blunt and he threw up all over his girlfriend when we went back inside. Good times

E: no local bookie would ever ever EVER take a beating like that and let the guy continue to bet. Like; that isn’t a thing. Some guy hits big 2-3x and the book will stop answering your calls and we’re not even talking fantasy gazillionaire numbers like this guy was. You can take a casino for that kind of money. Bookies are largely just fantasy sports nerds these days. Some kick up to someone but most are just fantasy sports nerds with a following.

+200 isn't 200-1, it's 3-1. + means you win this much for betting $100, - means you need to bet this much to win $100

Sorry if I misread. I thought someone said the guy hit on 200-1 and no one took the underdog which isn’t a thing in any sport anywhere.

More than one retard will always do the “so you’re telling me there’s a chance” thing. Way more common in like horse racing or dog racing but I’m confident in saying it’s probably a thing with mma fights too

E: wait can I say retard here or is this not ok?

I mean he almost always posted about his bets ahead of time, so it wasn't like was exclusively telling stories like, "just cleaned house mother fuckers I bet on every single winner!" I found the post where his bookie cut him off:

jase1 posted:

My bookie cut me off today. He will no longer take bets from me. Hopefully I find one that will accept my bets before the Cormier fight because I want to place a large wager on him. This is the first time since I started sports betting a couple of years ago that I have been dropped and it feels loving awesome! I use to hear my gambling friends talk about that and I never knew I would actually have that happen to me and it's all because of this thread. I use to come in here and be mocked and I had to prove you guys wrong or it would have drove me crazy. I am such a douche for getting all riled up about internet posts but I am glad I did because I learned how to bet sports in a way that won't break me. Thanks again thread for doing what you do I couldn't have done it without you guys mocking me for betting on MMA. I am sorry if I am rambling but I am still pretty drunk from last night and all of this was in my head so now it's time to go to bed.

That loss put me at -17k for the month on my gambling. I have been getting my rear end handed to me at the poker table too. Wife shut me down for the month because she knows I will chase like a motherfucker and she is right. So we decided to go on vacation for 2 weeks until football starts. As long as Disney and Universal studios don't have things to gamble on I should be okay. I feel like overall in MMA I am still ahead but it can't be by much. At one point I know I was up to 30k profit from MMA gambling but since I changed bookies I lost most of my info on that. Awesome fight either way and I was going nuts went Diaz made that comeback at the end of the 2nd and all of the third. I thought with the takedown at the end of the fight it would have sealed it for Diaz but I guess I don't know poo poo about scoring because every where I have read says the scoring was pretty spot on.

It's actually sort of interesting to me to go back and see him at the start of this thread not betting like, 1k on a fight (also I guess pre bookie since he's posting ticket slips): https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3388320&userid=61059&perpage=40&pagenumber=1 Whenever I shared his bets with other people I usually said something like, "if this is real" because it's still the internet and all, but it also seems like just a weird gimmick to keep up for so long considering his ups and downs were still posted before the cards happened.

Ok so I've been trying to find this on my own but I haven't turned up what I wanted, I'm wondering if some of the historians in this thread have a better shot at it.

I'm looking for a thread or maybe even just series of posts made by Duncan (aka Triticum Guzzler) in GBS where it was just a series of screenshots from Shenmue with captions. It was really just flaming GBS and the stereotypical goon of the moment and I remember laughing super hard at it. Like halfway into the thread a dude says "That was really funny next you should do one about reddit" and everyone just obliterates him. Now that I'm writing it out maybe it was posted by g0m not Duncan, I can't remember.

Pretty much everything about Homestuck is specifically designed from the ground up to appeal to very particular online demographics of the time who went nuts for it. I mean it's literally about a bunch of nerds stuck in their homes communicating online and trying to figure out a big and complex video game while doing things like shipping and making bad comics in their spare time.
